Re: Saints v Hawks match day thread
Really, really poor. Work rate horrid. Leaving men loose all over the place. At least man up and try and create a contest!!
1 inside 50 in a qtr of footy? Crazy!
Hawks good, but we've been worse that they have been good. Worst half in a long, long while. Most disappointing.

Re: Saints v Hawks match day thread
i actually said that to my dad. The better teams often get better in the wet and the defensive efforts are harder and wet hands don't make them stickier. Never had a good feeling about this one.LondonSaint wrote:Just a reality check, fellas. That we are a bottom 3
team, and playing the top team in AFL.
People say the wet conditions evens it out. But
it doesn't seem like it. Hawthorn players can still
Kick, handball and mark without much fumbling
If anything, it accentuate our lack of skills. Players who
can't kick like Jones, Ray just been made looked worse.
They just keep putting our teammates under pressure,
I say replace them with some skills soon. Would rather
see Ross, or Milera from the 2s.
This is about our level. Hawthorn is just a phenomenal
team. Once they get the ball, everyone spreads and disposals
are so clean we can't even get a tackle on.
The positive is that Acres on his debut is going well. 8 possessions
in a half.

Re: Saints v Hawks match day thread
A couple of years ago, we used to keep sides scoreless for HALVES of football.
The worm turns.
For the young blokes, this should be a good eye opener on just how hard you have to work.

The ONLY positive is that our kids are getting games under their belts. The sooner we develop them, the quicker we can banish the likes of jones, ray and guilt to the reserves.

Playing a top team is not an excuse to be uncompetitive- sure you will probably get beaten, but you get beaten by a lot less, and learn a lot more as a player when you make it a real contest.

Re: Saints v Hawks match day thread
Not to mention Roo's body is shot. I wouldn't be upset if they sat him on the pine for the whole second half, he's struggling badly with his knee and an ankle problem...HitTheBoundary wrote:Saunders was sub, and only came on in the 2nd quarter, and he's already had 6 touches.Con Gorozidis wrote:Geary has the 6th most disposals up to half time and he only played one qtr....
So we have about 16 passengers/non-contributers
Newnes, Savage, Saunders barely touched the ball.
Schneider done nothing and Roo barely been near it.
And with barely any inside 50's, I'm not surprised Roo hasn't had it much.
Happy with Wellers effort, bit fumbly but he's not alone. Acres looks good.
Really disappointed with Simpkin. I'm a fan of his, but Shoenmakers is a spud and Simpkin is letting him do as he pleases.

Love how it was Clinton Jones free kick and Billings demanded the ball - the umpire had no idea - smart kid

Shoenmakers will never find it this easy to play in the forward line again. Simpkin far too loose.

The Hawks spread and run is phenomenal - their endurance is elite - as a youngish team we are struggling to keep upThe Craw wrote:This is hard to watch... the Saints are just witches hats.

Certainly we're letting a lot of tackles slip. Not a good day at all. Write it off and move on.The Craw wrote:Is it not too hard to lay a freaking tackle.

Why do our defenders try to mark in the wet
instead of punching the mark away? Simpkin, Gwilt and Dempster.
100 point thrashing coming.

Re: Saints v Hawks match day thread
sigh
was hoping we wouldnt get these type of thrashings this year, this reminds me of the 80s
oh well, we are bottom 3 after our start to the year i thought we were going much higher than that
cant really say much except that i hope weller, acres, billings and the other youngsters learn something from the game

No one can be happy with this effort, regardless of how awesome the hawks are.
The most disappointed I have been in a saints team in a long long long time.... would have to go back to Timids time.

That is some terrible, terrible, terrible defending from Simpkin. Not that he should be singled out...but.
Lazy.
