Or is it the old story that people with power, no matter how insignificant, will do anything to retain it?matrix wrote:can we get an update on this?
all of us appreciate whats trying to be done, but where are we sitting with this?
bfusa have you hit a brick wall with the so called owner?
or is it that people who do the updates just dont have time (which is understandable)
cheers

What power?
What power could be possibly gained by owning the name of this joint?.
Faaark me.
Does go to show that whoever does ahem.... Own it, couldn't give a crap about it.
Here we are with ideas and offering to rraise funds and these peanuts completely ignore the guys trying to set it up and get it into this century

Is it seriously true that no-one's been able to sign up since July 10th last year?
That's f****** ridiculous. Obviously no-one cares about this forum, you're right matrix. It would cost me about $150 a year to run this place - $10 a month hosting, small amount for domain registration. If the current "owners" don't want to run it properly then they can f*** off and hand it over.

Hi Simon, I hope that your family issues are settling ok. When you do get a chance, I, like many others on here, would love to hear an update from you as to where things are at.bergholt wrote:Is it seriously true that no-one's been able to sign up since July 10th last year?

I realise that it's each to their own, but personally, the thought of SS loosing ground and valuable contributors to Big Vanilla...

Another option is to branch off to a new forum owned and run by members, but to make it work you really need to have everyone move across, otherwise it becomes another google plus ghost town.

Been posting for a few years now and have no idea who owns it and if they do, they are doing a pretty carpy job if most of the forum functions are not working. All they really 'own' is the domain name and they pay for the hosting. Why they would be worried if that power was usurped is well and truly beyond me.......
Would have thought that someone would have been thrilled to have the offer of someone offering to help give it a facelift and to get it functioning properly to entice new members and more robust discussion. There is just no helping some people.......
I would be happy to help you Simon. Have a fair amount of experience with hosting and eCommerce platforms and would be happy to put my skills to use if you need them.

Still no response by anyone, anywhere, to anything...........
Predictable. Shame. I feel sorry for SImon who has had a real tilt at trying to drag this place kicking and screaming into the 21st century.....

wont matter what tricks n whistles the site offers
it will always come down to the quality of the posters

Still no 'response' from the owner? Surely they could pop in and give us an update if they love the site so much and cannot bear to part with any control of it....?? I read that they are residing overseas. He/she does know that you can access the site from anywhere in the world right? Internet is global........

I'm not sure why you need to bump a sticky.
But it would be nice to get an update.

Re: Forum Makeover - TOPIC RE-OPENED FOR REVIEW
I have put my views on moderation in the plugger thread.
But my point was that some people were saying Simon had too much power in moderation.
I just don't think this matters at all. Nothing is at stake.
I think there is only need for any other people to be involved in discipline if we are talking about life bans.
For just run of the mill short term bans and warnings then i see no need for any kind of open panel system.
Just a waste of time.
