Good on Jarryn. Great effort and persistence.

Well done to him.

I think the first time we would have seen would have been the 2008 first round of the NAB Cup against Richmond (when they added their all-yellow jumper to a still-growing line of pre-season strip monstrosities). Even then I wasn't sure exactly what he'd been picked up for - not overly quick, didn't impress with his skill, not an inside player, nothing really going for him physically. But he's put himself into the CJ basket (the good kind) - he's worked incredibly hard on the track and on the field to get absolutely everything out of himself. And it's great that his approach and qualities as a person and have been recognised by the club with the place in the leadership group.

He'll always have his knockers, and it seems as though he'll always only be able to do so much. I do wonder if he has another 100 in him at the Saints, particularly if the kids really start improving over the next two to three years, but for now he's a necessary player to have.

Agree with all that. Well said.

And a big "well done" to Gears while I'm at it. :)

He's been pretty good value. Hope he starts to run into a bit of form soon.

Congrats to Clutch! (my new nickname for him)

Congrats to Gears. He's a hard working, tough nut for sure. I've never seen him shirk a contest.

a total beast on the training track from what i hear ... if nothing else he has used his guts and determination to get to where he is today ... full respect for that ... far to many players with more natural ability toss away their chances so when a player with less ability pushes through to get to the big time i have nothing but respect for them

There was an all in scrap at Casey Fields in 2007... At the Qtr time siren

Last to get up, and wanting more was a jumper less skinny 18yo

Love Gears tenacity. Not the silky smooth mover, he's more like the tasmanian devil on Looney Toons.

Rip it up and take no prisoners.

When Joel Selwood was on the lie detector with Brian Taylor and BT asked Selwood who he thought was the 'hardest' player at the Cats, Selwood said it was himself. BT then asked; Do you think you're the hardest in the competition? Selwood also answered "yes" after initially hesitating.

I asked my son who else in the whole competition he thought was as hard as Selwood. To my delight my son responded; Jarryn Geary

We've always admired his absolute commitment to the contest. Congratulations on your 100 Gears

Geary is that hardworking but not overly talented type of player that makes the most out if what he has sheer bloody hardwork and total uncompromising committment.

Think Blake, Baker, CJ......

Many players with more talent will not play as many games as they do not have his mental toughness

http://www.saints.com.au/video/2014-04- ... -to-leader

http://www.saints.com.au/news/2014-04-3 ... ches-a-ton
In the three years that the Saints finished in the top three from 2008 to 2010, Geary played 44 senior games but missed out come finals time every year.

Over that same time period, Robert Eddy, who joined the Saints in the same 2007 rookie draft played 33 games – nine of which were finals.

Eddy’s career finished around about the same time Geary’s started to gain momentum and as the Saints descended down the ladder, Geary’s value to the team grew. As the senior, experienced teammates who kept him out of those finals teams started to depart, Geary stepped up to the breach and at the beginning of 2013 he was officially included in the St Kilda leadership group.

Those who had been watching the 25-year-old closely would have seen his inclusion in the group as a no-brainer.

It has become custom to see him first over the line in the pre-season time trials – even when coming from a handicap start as he did in one pre-season run in last year’s high-altitude training camp in Boulder, Colorado.

i know he is injured at the moment but from my observation on who takes up the role as reving the boys up and talking in huddles etc i reckon Armo might be slightly ahead of gears

He reminds me of Paul Kelly from Sydney in the old days. Just a little bloke but plays like he's 100 kgs. You won't find a gutsier player at the Saints.
