Re: Farren Ray!!!!
He is not a good kick
He had 3 options for success
1/ kick it earlier so less frontal pressure to impact his kick
2/ draw further and handball over the top
3/ the guy was charging at him, just sidestep and slot it?
He took none of those, ran too close to the oncoming defender... Put some pressure on the 30 m kick and sprayed it.
Poor effort from a very experienced player... Should have iced it
It was a soda, shoulda been a gimme if he chose a better option
Panicked

Is that why you don't quote, because you panic under pressure?

Farren has been missing targets by foot his whole career. When you rely on accuracy to win close games, don't rely on Farren. Not sure what's been discussed in the other thread, (I'm about to go have a read) but the reason guys like CJ and Farren get free is that opposition coaches don't rate them - disposal doesn't hurt opposition
Re: Farren Ray!!!!
Bottom line
Farren Ray will not see another Grand final in the st.kilda colours.
No malice in that comment just reality.
Likes of Ray, Jones, even Geary simply bit players till we build for another shot at the flag by blooding cha, pion youngsters.
Cant say i have been over the moon about Savage...................watch this space i suppose on him??

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
After visiting the other thread I'm glad I chose this thread to read first. Wasn't even worth reading the other crap.
Faz obviously tries his guts out, but the reality is that there are plenty of kids running around in under 18's all round the country who will be taking Farrens place and hopefully their composure in future years and their skills under pressure as they gain experience will help Saints climb up the ladder.

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
A bit over the top guys he's been fantastic this year. Wasn't his night it happens. He might have done an opposite Daniel Wulf and not cost us a KPF future star.

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
Farren Ray
Field Kicking: 40%
Goal kicking: 10%
That's how it's always been
When he picked up that ball I knew he was going to miss, just like all the other times he has missed from similar situations. I would have had more confidence in Clinton Jones kicking that goal

His entire career he seems to have a brain explosion when he has to kick inside 50 .
I think he either panics and gets bamboozled by the goal posts. Needs to kick at something behind the goals.
But hes always been like this so tonight was completely true to form.
Has kicked 53.55 in 181 games.
By comparison CJ has 35.27 from 138 games.
So Ray kicks more points than goals and always has.

What does that even mean?
And yes, a 30m shot on goal for a near 200 game player who was selected #4 in a draft should be fairly straight forward to think your way through?
If I am in a similar situation today, I'd hope I kick the goal? I do believe he panicked? Less time to think, he would have kicked it.

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
Those types of shots are far more accurate, if kicked at a lower trajectory - jut over the top of the Goal Umpire's head!!

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
I still can't see how his drafting position 10 years ago affects whether he should kick a goal in 2014.BigMart wrote:Saint Pav

He should have kicked the goal.

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
It suggest he has a bit of natural talent? At one stage he was thought to be the 4th best 17/18yo player in the country.... You don't get this rating without some ability....
And Farren is a good player... IMO
He just didn't think his way though that very well, for a ten year player... Disappointing
Billings was worse, but hopefully he'll learn?

But if he'd been pick 66 it would have been somehow OK?

Re: Farren Ray!!!!
Probably not.... But you're expectations are higher if you are deemed top 5 talent... Ask Jack Watts
For the obvious reason I stated before.... A top 5 pick is elite talent
Question
Do you have high expectations for Jack Billings
