Forward line needs a bit of work

Watched some of the replay of the NZ game, and although the whole team was lethargic in the first half (me thinks they thought an easy win was coming up), and the second half we had the ability to shift up a gear which is a good sign in a team which is a few goals down, similar to the win against Essendon. But.. we have a problem with the forward line above all- there seems to be no system once Roo hasn't got the ball in his hands. Stanley is a stop-gap forward/ ruck at best, but we really need a specialist full forward presence down there and bit more finishing skill in general. I think we need Milera down there along with Schneider to add the polish around the flanks.

I think Schneider is vital. He directs guys like Saunders and billings , he delivers the ball well to roo and Rhys and he finishes with goals. Would have won if he played vs Brisbane .

I want to see Fisher come back and play out of the goal square.
Before people throw up arguments, I know he has been our best defender for years, but he has hardly played in a year.
He is old and our backline is looking okay.
Bruce and Delaney at the moment are the future and to drop one of them for a bloke in his last season is stupid.

The best thing we can do for a forward line is to not win anymore games for the year so we can get the number 1 draft pick. Apparently there is a player that will be in the draft this year who they are saying is better than Daniher at the same age.....sorry I can't remember his name but he is about 200 cm's tall. If we win 1 or 2 more games and we end up with pick 2 then we should get Hugh Goddard.

You are right of course.

Schneider would have iced the game for us nicely on Friday and should come in.

Ultimately, though, we are going to need another marking target. Stanley, improved player as he is, doesn't seem to impact on the scoreboard as often as he might and is a ruck/forward rather than a natural goal-kicker.

Let's hope Lee comes on.

Great idea, i had a similar thought before the NZ game thinking where would he play if he were selected. He's got good game sense and good hands. Would also prolong his career by a year or two as he would'nt be taking the second forward and getting belted in times of need. You also gain the flexibility of throwing him back as spare if the game is at a critical stage.

I actually see it starting to come together a bit. We are still hugely reliant of Roo of course. But if (its a big IF) Stanley can keep improving I see him doing the Rooey role of pushing up on the wings and the middle to be that link/hold up player out of the back while we spread forward. Rooey has been hunting closer to goal this year. Billings is a key addition to the fwd line. He'll kick a lot of goals and set up other players with his long, precision kicking and vision. We need a crash packing forward. We need a lead up forward - TDL or Lee possibly. We will miss Eli energy and pressure on the fwd line but this is a chance for someone like TDL or Milleara to step up.

If Lee has another good game today I think it would be about time to give him a go doing the job we recruited him to do.

Not at the expense of Roo or Stanley either. I think another marking target will straighten us up a bit more.

TDL and Milera are not good enough to play AFL and will always struggle at the highest level. The 2 of them will be gone before the 2016 season.

Schneider deserves a boot in the a#s for getting rubbed out after all the footy he has missed. He is the missing piece of the forward puzzle at the moment. He helps Roo, takes pressure of Stanley, as the defenders need to watch the more danderous Schneider, and coaches the newbies. Since the loss of Milne and Saad, and Kosi, plus Walsh not making it and leaving, Schneider is vital for the development of our younger players. Without him in that current side we will struggle to kick 10 goals in any game.
