Shane Savage
Can't say I have been pleased with Savages start at the St.Kilda FC. What are his upsides? Only feel like he got a game tonight from his Kiwi heritage (harsh I know) and just not the clever half forward I thought he was?
Might have misjudged one here.......? i am happy to be told otherwise by my criticisms are
he always seems rushed, under pressure and decision making not great. His pressure and ability to read the play is not very good either. Maverick Weller would give us a lot more then he does ATM

Re: Shane Savage
I thought he was much better tonight.
He missed a goal and he gave away a stupid 50 metre. I have no idea why he did that at then end.

Re: Shane Savage
I thought he was alright. Even though he stuffed up that throw, the game was s*** to watch so we probably didn't deserve to win it.
Re: Shane Savage
Yea probably needs more time......he was better tonight probably just overestimated his ability.

Re: Shane Savage
A bit disappointed with him yet again. The early sub seemed to indicate the footy gods had a sense of occasion for the NZ kid and he did a great lunging tackle early. But he doesn't seem to keep up the intensity. He should be more of a link player than he is. I just don't think he's working hard enough with leads and running into space. The football gods set it up so he would either be a hero or villain in his home country tonight and he blew it. Don't think he did enough to keep his spot.

Re: Shane Savage
I always thought he looked really pacy, sharp and a good finisher at the Hawks...unfortunately he hasn't set the world on fire 'yet', but I really hope it's just the adjustment to Richo's game style, probably hardest to adjust for those attack oriented wing type players...would be good if he does start to play some better footy as the season progresses and into next year!

Re: Shane Savage
I thought he had a go, you could see he really wanted to have a crack at the contested stuff so hopefully he gets a game next week and has a chance on Australian soil to prove he wasn't just showing off in front of his cousin brothers.

Won't get a disagreement out of me, average footballer who won't figure in our resurgence.andrewg wrote:Can't say I have been pleased with Savages start at the St.Kilda FC. What are his upsides? Re: Shane Savage
He'll be a good link player at Sandy.
The only reason we got him was the draft picks that came with him!

Re: Shane Savage
Not overly impressed yet but will give him more time to settle into the side before making a full assessment
I think he has the attributes but not so sure about consistency of work rate.
In a young side he needs to be a leader and lead by example - hope he makes it

Re: Shane Savage
Question is how much time does he have to get settled? Going with he assumption he came in because Schneider was out, Weller is pushing and I'm sure the club is licking its lips for acres to be ready for debut. I think there is a clock for him in the 1sts.One Eyed Saint wrote:Not overly impressed yet but will give him more time to settle into the side before making a full assessment

I thought it was his best game tonight.
Was a bit surprised that a bloke from New Zealand couldn't throw an oval ball.

Re: Shane Savage
Has no tank. That's why he started as a sub so often at the Hawks, and that's why it looks like he doesn't work hard enough. The real disappointing thing for me is that he makes many poor decisions with the ball. This is a bloke who has already played a few seasons of AFL - so some real warning bells are ringing.
That throw back to the Brisbane player in the last 40 sec was unacceptable. You would think he had money on the Lions it was that laughable. Bring in that Wellar kid everyone is talking about. If he's getting 40 possessions for Sandy he deserves a crack!

Re: Shane Savage
Tried hard tonight.
Really laid some good tackles and went in hard.
Just lacks composure in traffic when he has the ball.
Did a couple of good things - but not enough for a 60 game player.

Re: Shane Savage
Not really sure what to make of Shane's game. Was there a bouts but couldn't impact the game. Had a few possessions but didn't seem to do anything.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Shane Savage
Think he has struggled but he tried his guts out tonight. Contested and tackled hard but has no composure and poor decision making skills.
Hoping iris a confidence thing as he did not appear to have these issues as a Hawk, but many a ordinary footballer has looked good in a good side.
I guess time will tell, but he was far from our worse tonight.

Re: Shane Savage
I am with most of you other posters - he looked the goods, but has been disappointing.
Played better last night, but needs to improve a lot. It just goes to show how playing in a team with great skills (hawks), helps to make everyone look like a better player.

Re: Shane Savage
Savage will be dropped. We have Fisher and Schnieder to come back in for the Hawks. Savage was very ordinary and the throw back to the Lions player was unacceptable.

Savage is definitely the steak knives part of the McEvoy deal.
I doubt the Hawks miss him, another Josh Kitchen, they look after us trade wise the Hawks...

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Shane Savage
If im a midfielder playing VFL im absolutely at a loss right now as to what I have to do to get a game over Savage.
Savage has been unimpressive at best this season. He needs at least a few weeks at VFL level.

Re: Shane Savage
I would think the guys like Eli, CJ, Saunders and Savage are there because they stop the ball leaving the forward line as much as creating scores. Unaccountable forwards don't get games any more. It's much less of a spectacle now but I would think Milera would get a game if he could keep the intensity up the other way. Same for TDL who seems to have worked pretty hard to get more defensive pressure into his game.

Re: Shane Savage
Not much love for Shane. I personally thought he showed a few positive signs last night. I think he will be handy. Looks to me like he doesn't quite feel comfortable in the group yet. Just my observation. Might be totally wrong.
His throwing skills also need some attention.
