Re: Changes this week
Why not play two rucks and murder the Dons in the ruck which could assist us?
It is not a given however I would expect our boys to molest Carlisle and Daniher if that is all they play

Re: Changes this week
Not to sure whether this is the year to give a young guy 1 game, then drop him, unless he was completely out of his depth.I don't think that,so would give Longer another game

I would like to see that too. Not sure about Ross though, but it is like for like unless they elevate Weller.cwrcyn wrote:Hickey for Longer

Savage I think needs the message that he will not actually be gifted games. He needs to earn them. Suspect they will keep him in due to the NZ game....but that really is not a good reason, as it can infect a whole team if players start to think that there are favourites.
Billings would be a chance too.

Re: Changes this week
think you are all being a bit harsh about maister. He was doing ok up forward but got shifted to the backline as gwilt could not handle podsiadly. maister is definately not a backman and never will be. not his fault that he got played out of position to cover holes in our team structure.

Re: Changes this week
Changes vs Essendon. It will be a very tough assignment, and it would make sense for us to use hard-arsed experienced players. Not an ideal time for young inexperienced kids. Therefore keep Maister for another week, if anything it may protect Lee from psycological damage. Savage is more seasoned than Billings, and I'd like to shelter Billings a bit, he can wait another week. We need to replace Wright, so Bruce is probably the right option. If Armitage is injured, perhaps we could give Milera a crack unless Schnieder is ready.
Re: Changes this week
After watching Beau's shank set shot last week against crows I thought - that's about it for the short term back to sandy.

Re: Changes this week
The Crows game was a bad team performance, but unless Maister and Stanley can start playing with a bit more authority in the forward line- and actually hold more marks and kick goals, then they should make way for Hickey and Lee. We need another goal kicking half forward with a bit more experience and Milera might get the nod for Eli. Simpkin comes in for Wright and Billings for Armo.
Out: Maister, Stanley, Wright, Armo, Eli

Longer & Hickey aren't ready to play in the same side surely?
The last thing Stanley needs is to be dropped.
With Armo missing we are going to need some muscle to come into the midfield.

Re: Changes this week
I personally don't see any need to rush Billings in.
Just because he is a high draft pick - people want him in immediately - but he's 'here for a career, not the start of the a season'.
I know he's getting some kicks in the vfl - but if his body wasn't ready for AFL footy 5 weeks ago - i don't see how that has changed.
Let him and Blake develop their games and work on their bodies. Maybe sneak them in for some games later in the year.
They both still have the bodies of kids and are getting used to playing v men in the vfl.
I think Dunstan and to a lesser extent Templeton had already played some Sr footy last year.
I don't think Blake and Billings had ever played Sr footy until this year (this week for Blake).
I don't see any real reason to throw them in to get crunched just for the sake of it.
We have some guys in pretty decent form in the VFL at present - so we do have some mature depth.

Or do we give him another week in the VFL?

Re: Changes this week
Got to be blunt..plays with absolutely no authority for a 200cm ruck/ forward, drops easy marks and gets pushed aside by smaller players in contests- I really wanted him to take a step and he has had enough of a go but I don't think he has the goods and I would rather give someone else an opportunity to be honest.CURLY wrote:Why would you have Stanley out??

Re: Changes this week
Stanley out - for at least a month or until he gets some solid form - Hickey back in please
Maister out - and only to return in an emergency - Lee to come back or Milera, as their form at Sandringham has been solid
