Changes for round 5

Post: # 1450011Post dragit »

I reckon Riewoldt could do with a rest, can't afford to run him into the ground and we aren't aiming for finals. Important for him to be fresh for NZ.

Out
Riewoldt, Maister, templeton, wright, armitage, longer

In
Lee, Bruce, Schneider, milera, billings, hickey

CJ has one credit left.

In lee, Schnides, hickey

out Wright, Maister, Longer

possibly Billings for Eli. Eli does a lot of work off the ball and is actually pretty good at staying on his man. Billings has all the skills but I don't know if he is up to the same type of role yet. The coaches will know better than me though.

Armo lascerated knee 50/50 chance of playing next week according to Richo. Reading between the lines I think he'll miss.

IN: Hickey, Shenton (upgraded), Ross, Lee
OUT: Longer (omit), Wright (inj), Savage (omit), Maister (omit)

That is going on form, Shenton can play the Wright role and deserves it, I've given up on Savage - 4 disposals at high time playing in the midfield is terrible and Ross is in good form at Sandy, Lee in as we need another forward target and seems to have hit the scoreboard the last two weeks.

Unlucky to miss out, Simpkin, Milera, Billings, although I'd really like to see Simpkin in, just for his toughness and heart, plus he's in good form at the moment.

Geary & Jones should consider themselves lucky if they're not dropped. Billings could easily come in for Jones.

IN: Fisher, Hickey, Lee, Milera/Ross, Schneider
OUT: Armitage (inj), Longer, Maister, Savage, Wright (inj)

Fisher for Wright - add a bit of power back to the defence.
Milera/Ross for Armo - help out in midfield.
Hickey for Longer - like for like.
Lee for Maister - different roles but Maister's just run out of lives.
Schneider for Savage - he's just a much better player.

Don't really care about this weeks ins … we won't beat Bombers. But we MUST beat Brisbane in New Zealand. So important as we build a possible fan base in NZ. Plus Brisbane in NZ is probably our most winnable game for many weeks. Rest whoever … even Roo. Just have them fresh for NZ.

I think Delaney could be in doubt, as he could be suspended with a striking offence

Out: Armo, Wright, Savage, Eli, Stanley, Maister
In: Lee, Milera, Ross, Billings, Simpkin, Hickey

Our forward line spine at the moment consists of Roo, Maister(who cant seem to take a grab any more) and Stanley who drops easy marks and gets pushed aside by smaller players. Real problems with the forward structure

If I were picking the team:

B: Dempster, Delaney, Geary
HB: Webster, Bruce, Schneider
C: Montagna, Armitage, Curren
HF: Saunders, Riewoldt, Ray
F: Billings, Lee, Stanley

Foll: Hickey, Dunstan, Steven
Int: Hayes, Newnes, Ross
Sub: Templeton

Out: Wright, Maister, Jones, Gwilt, Longer, Savage
In: Schneider, Lee, Ross, Bruce, Hickey, Billings

The ins should help with our lack of skill and natural goalkickers. I'd be much more comfortable with Bruce on Daniher than Gwilt, and there's a chance that Lee may hold a mark as opposed to the Maister method. Jones has been poor against semi-decent opposition and Ross has earned his chance with consistently dominant performances for Sandy. Savage has been ordinary all year and Billings looks to be in much better form. Schneids would be an absolute godsend - we need to get the footy in his hands as much as possible. Hickey is obviously a fair way ahead of Longer at this point.

I like that side msg, though I reckon Milera deserves a game probably for Templeton… can't see us dropping Savage a week before NZ, hopefully his form builds.

I agree on Savage, I think he should be dropped but won't. The issue with Milera is that he is clearly above VFL standard and clearly below AFL standard - I don't see the point in continuing the cycle of dominating for Sandy and failing for St Kilda. He's 26 years old and doesn't have the strength or workrate for AFL footy. He is also stuck in between being a goalkicking outside mid and a small forward. He doesn't get enough of the footy to be a midfielder and doesn't kick enough goals to be a forward. His career average of 11 touches, 3 marks, 1 goal and 2 tackles is less than what Templeton is currently providing as an 18 year old.

What has Mildew done to warrant a call-up?

Templeton was quiet however he did not look slow. He played with his usual energy so surely he gets another run

Milera's VFL stats have been very good. But they always are. Just as his AFL performances are always disappointing.

Converse to gifting games, I think you need to actually reward guys that continually perform well in the 2's.

If we won't give Milera a game on principle we may as well keep him in the dev squad.

Templeton has been lively, but at only 18 I don't think it will hurt him to have a rest after 4 games. I thought he looked well off the pace yesterday, he could just be tiring.

Do people really think Savage will stay in for PR reasons? I'm pretty sure that if he is not up to speed then Richo will drop him - NZ or no NZ.

If Curren is in as our no 1 tagger then is CJ playing as a pure mid or are we using 2 taggers?

I'm a big wrap for CJ's workload and aggression but not as pure mid.

One of CJ or Savage out and either Ross or Billings in.
Lee in for Maister
Bruce in for Wright with J web to provide run out of defence
Would love Schneids in but I'm not sure who goes out.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
