Re: St Kilda going home !!
This will be a fantastic move .
It will give us greater exposure as a club and improve our membership and presence.
You only have to look at Collingwood's exposure at the Lexus Centre to see there's more value there than in the boon docks.
Sounds promising with the AFL and the Vic govt behind it.
Our future is looking very bright now.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
This is all good and well but where do we train over summer when the JO is used for cricket? I can't see this working out at all. And when do the cricket take over the ground at the start of their season for wicket preparation, etc?, in the middle of the finals (if we are lucky enough to be back in them one day)?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: St Kilda going home !!
All I can see is us having 2 or even 3 training grounds. maybe thats what the club wants but werent the players upset because of the travel factor? Now they will have no idea where to live. Anyway Ive always said it matters jack where you train for supporters. No one watches training. As for the notion that its better exposure , just look at the pies well i would say the hawks are stuck in the middle of no where and look how big they have become.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
Ah yes the Harry Trott oval- played a few social footy games there years ago. I think the whole move is really to do with marketing the Saints as a brand rather than where we end up training, and we really do need to generate money quickly.

There is going to be a State Election in Victoria in November and it looks like it is going to be pretty close. The State Government can't promise Federal and/or AFL $$$$$$ for this project. I refuse to get excited just yet !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

That's the way I read it to.spert wrote:Seems like the Saints would use the adjacent ground, linked by a tunnel when the main oval is needed for cricket finals.

I read it slightly different: I read it that Cricket would have the main oval & they would develop the other oval for us all the time !!Stephen Theodore wrote:That's the way I read it to.spert wrote:Seems like the Saints would use the adjacent ground, linked by a tunnel when the main oval is needed for cricket finals.

Cannot see myself yelling "C'mon The Nomads" at the footy!
How many home venues does a club need?
This is only so that they can play footy on the MCG in March. The last desperate attempt by the Liberal Government to hang on to power.
f*** them, and f*** cricket Victoria.... We'll stay where we are thank you.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
I have been banging on about this for every since the move from Moorabbin was mooted... this is the best news for the club in the 30+ years I have been following it.
Wow....just wow!
Harry Trott is just across the road & is already a pretty decent sized oval. I wouldn't think that it will take too much work other than a re-surfacing to bring it up to scratch. The VAFA club playing their would need to be re-located though... plenty of other ovals in Albert Park though.
Bringing St.Kilda back to St.Kilda.....awesome.
This will have a massive impact when we come to try to sign free agents... young blokes are able to live in the inner city & spend minimal time travelling to training.

Is there any talk of a boutique stadium or is this just a training venue with new facilities? Either way, if we can walk away from Seaford then it can only be a positive.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
If the ground is to be good enough for cricket finals then seating capacity, toilets, food etc etc would
have to be a certain standard. That would be good enough for hosting lower crowd number games
such as interstate games,and have a afl tenant,obviosly St.Kilda.
I think that Carlton tried and failed years ago but this would be under AFL control with the govt.
I agree with the comment on Hawthorn and training centre, but on field success helps.

There will be 2 ovals, one for cricket the other for football. Not too hard is it?Jacks Back wrote:This is all good and well but where do we train over summer when the JO is used for cricket? In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
its an amazing opportunity to be honest, not saying we should abandon seaford or morrabin, we have to look at this closely and use it to our advantage.
it really makes us the bayside club doesnt it? coverage in St.kilda itself, morrabin and seaford, really sets us apart from the other clubs particularly marketing wise.
we cant let any other club take this away from us if offered to us on a platter.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
Would be great if return to St.Kilda coincided with the launch of the St.Kilda VFL team. Would the VFL team use the St.Kilda ground, or play at Moorabbin? I noticed in the papers that although there was talk of another code taking over Seaford, Moorabbin was'nt mentioned, so I assume we will still retain it.

Re: St Kilda going home !!
If this does happen when do we expect the redevelopment to finish by? let's say before 2016 would we then play our standalone reserves at Junction Oval for home games?

Read this article from today's Age :

The redevelopment proposal includes two ovals. The existing oval for cricket and a second oval for us linked to the admin and indoor facilities by a tunnel. Shared use of indoor fitness facilities.
Think it would be brilliant for us. A high profile spots adjacent to the CBD. St.Kilda in St.Kilda.....bring it on.
