How can you give Markworth a contract extension before murdoch without him even playing an afl game?

Dont disagree - just thought I would add this info because people in other threads have been discussing various related issues - mainly the fwd and backline players. Intended more of a reference or bookmark to aid general list management discussion rather than a definitive judgement on individual players.

As I said - not definitive by any stretch of the imagination. More just overall list Mgt reference i.e how many fwds do we need? how many backs? etc etc.

Re Markworth - just based that on the fact he could be considered a '2nd year' player because of his knee. Also plenty of time for all the people 'in trouble' to turn it around. Its just a snapshot of where we are at at the moment.

Who knows - some forumites might actually appreciate the provision of some information on this topic over bickering.

Because he is Bull Murdoch.

Bull Murdoch does what Bull Murdoch wants.

If Bull Murdoch wants a contract extension, Bull Murdoch will get it from Pelchen.

We should be ever-so-grateful to have Bull Murdoch.

Bull Murdoch chooses where Bull Murdoch players, not us.

Hi Pluggs, you are correct, and of course Con is early... 'tis a trademark of his, a badge of honour even, to not be a Mr Hindsight. (You should approve. )

However, in this Brave New (footy) World that includes stuff like free agency, clubs can no longer afford to let (most) required players get out of contract. (And with that in mind, Con, do you also have the list for those who's contracts wind-up end of season 2015? Ta.)

So Pluggs, I reckon that making some 'tad early' assessments and decisions is now often a necessity. What do you think?

He's just 20 years old and has played 8 games. And as you've shown, plenty will go off the list this year. I think he's guaranteed to get more time to prove himself.

Thanks Con, quite thought provoking.

Reckon it may be a bit early to make a call on Dunell, White, Murdoch and Michington.

White in trouble but Pierce likely extension???? WTF

Pierce would have to be 5th in line for a ruck position

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

You do realize White is only 19, but hey let's write him off!!
Some of your statements just make you look foolish sometimes

God almighty! I'm not writing anyone off.
I provided the information as a reference to assist in some of the list mgt discussions going on elsewhere and threw in some preliminary comments based on the here and now. Its a snapshot in time and may change after this weekends matches! Like pretty much every single thread on this forum. Blow me down!
Ill say it again - no-one is being written off - but this is the situation as it stands at this moment in time.
And there are hundreds - dare i say thousands of players who don't get their chance at the big time extended beyond 2 years.
Like everyone - I hope like hell Spencer gets more opportunities - and takes them.
But right here right now - at this point in time no-one can tell me hes a 100% certainty to be offered an extension.
If I was writing anyone off - i would have put the words 'gone' or 'no chance for extension'.
'in trouble' just means that more will have to be shown by seasons end than has been shown to this point in time.
Obviously only a maximum of 7 'ons' and 'offs' can/will happen at years end anyway.

It's an interesting discussion

There could be 3-5 retirements.
There could be 5-7 delistings
Could be 1-2 traded out
Could be 2-3 upgrades
Will be at least 2 new kids added
Could be 1 free agent

Based on above points will save / extend or end careers.

I predict we wil take 3 live picks and upgrade Eli, Weller and maybe Shenton
Meaning 6 move on. Assume no free agent yet

If No one retires (please Lenny has amazing year) then the likes of Dunnell are in trouble

But if Lenny, fish and Schneider all hang up boots due to injury and we don't rate draft beyond 2nd rd then hey even tdl might stay on.

Good discussion thread this one. Will fluctuate each month

Didn't we extend Maister's contract for a couple of years already? White will be there for a few years before being shunted, shame you are probably right about Dunnell. He was actually a great trainer but just probably behind to many other similar types like dempster, farren and Gears. About 10 others could go either way depending on their year. pierce is avery good tap ruck and should get longer even to trade at a later date.

Spencer a White in trouble after 1 season?

I thought he had shown more than anyone other forward that had come through in years.

I don't think he is in trouble.

This sort of speculation has no place on this forum. I don't see the point of all the innuendo that it causes. I read the first 2 lines then had to respond. Let's see how the season pans out before speculating on players futures.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

You're joking aren't you?
Surely this is the main fodder… speculating and opining on the future of players…

And it's exactly the discussion happening at the club each week too. Careers will be ended and salvaged with each contest and each game. Harder to predict then most years

I reckon Schneider & Fisher stay if they can manage 15 games - hopefully one can manage this.

Probably gone at years end (IMO)
Dunell - I can't see where he plays? Wright, Webster, Newnes, Acres will be in front of him for a back flank. As a mature player, he needs to be getting games now.
TDL - Brilliant at the lower level, seems to lack the intensity or strength for AFL.
Hayes - All good things must come to an end
CJ - I said this last year and was wrong so will probably be again. If Montagna is traded, CJ would get another year you. Weller may take his spot on the main list.

Lee, White, Markworth still plenty of upside so will be given more time.

Where is Murdoch aiming to play? HF? Does he have the pace for AFL? Should get another year at any rate.

Milera, Siposs & Simpkin will need to be playing regularly in the next 18 months to have any chance of an extension.

How is talking footy on a footy forum innuendo?
I'm not talking about their personal lives and surely we cant be restricted to only discussing the current and previous weeks games only?
I know the club says 'one week at a time' but surely us fans don't need to stick to that mantra.
In fact - if not for wild speculation we should close all footy forums down because wild speculation is a large part it.
Its just as speculative to say 'in trouble' as it is to say 'the next buddy'.
both pretty wild at this stage.

The main reason I bothered to post this info was to assist people who were already speculating on players futures on pretty much every other thread on SS.
If you read pretty much most threads there is already plenty of speculation on players futures - this thread has hardly started it (look at the threads on maister, gwilt, jones for example).

I was just adding some contract info to that discussion that was already taking place so people wouldn't 'delist' contracted players.

Its also a timely reminder how tough and cut throat AFL footy is.

Sure we gets some fairytale stories of a Barlow coming in late and being a star - but these a small %. The majority have short careers that are snuffed out at a young age.

Thomas Hobbes could have been referring to the life of an AFL footballer when he said 'the life of man... is ..., solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short'

Not many go on to have Buddy Franklin careers.
