$800,000 for Frawley
Is he worth it?

"St Kilda, where his uncle Danny Frawley captained, and Greater Western Sydney would also be suitors."
In other words, we haven't expressed any interest but the journalist thinks we might be up for it.

Hawthorn written all over it I reckon.
Gibson & Lake winding up…
Hodge, Mitchell, Sewell, Burgoyne & Hale will free up some serious cap space in the next 2 years.

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
Would be crazy paying that for him,he's a good defender but hardly elite of the elite,we'd also go another draft pick down the pecking order

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
i gotta agree with Lloyd on last night footy classified - Spud Frawley is not worth anything more than the 450 to 500K mark and the reward for off loading him is too great for the dees to even consider paying overs to keep him

No way. Worth half the amount

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
This is really concerning - assuming that Melbourne will finish last, they are now going to get picks 1 and 2 in the draft due to the absurd compensation system.
It directly impacts us, who rightfully deserve a low pick. If we end up finishing third last, which looks most likely in my opinion, we will land up with pick 4, when - IIRC - there are three gun forwards in the draft coming up.

why would they be certain to get pick 2 as compensation...????..dal santo is far and away a better footballer than frawley.......we didn't get pick 4 as compo for losing him.....

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
IMO Frawley has already made up his mind which club he is going to. His manager is effectively telling other clubs thanks but no thanks. He'll probably sign for around 200k under that to his preferred club....Hawthorn or Freo my bet at around 4 x 550-600k. Unrestricted free agent so Melbourne cannot match. They'll be happy to get pick 2 for him anyway.
Re: $800,000 for Frawley
That's not how free agency works. There's a band system determined by factors such as age, achievements and the biggest factor - $$$$. The compensation pick is also determined by ladder finish of the team losing the free agent. For example if Melbourne finish last, giving them pick 1, and Frawley leaves on big coin (600-700k plus, or thereabouts), Melbourne will receive band 1 compensation giving them a pick directly after their first round selection - pick 2.stinger wrote:SaintPav wrote:Picks 1 and 2 coming Dees way.

I don't want us to pay a premium for any player infected by the Dees curse. They haven't looked after their players for years.

But there is no way on earth they'd get pick 2. What did Geelong get for Ablett?Old Mate wrote:IMO Frawley has already made up his mind which club he is going to. Re: $800,000 for Frawley
One time B&F runner up from full-back. One time All-Australian. Will be 26 when next season gets underway.
I'd have him at the Saints in a heartbeat, but not at $800k a year. Not a cent over $450k I'd say.
He plays a very physical style, so who knows how long his body will hold out. You dont want to sign a 5 year deal and him be cactus for the last 2 years of it, pulling a huge chunk of your salary cap when talented kids are starting to hit their straps and demanding better deals.
Let the Hawks have him. They seem to have endless salary cap space to keep signing best-22 players from other clubs (Burgoyne, Lake, McEvoy, Hale, Gibson, the list goes on...)
And the Dees will get a pick at the end of the first round for him. They might still get 1 and 2 with a sympathy...sorry, priority...pick though.

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
He is nowhere near that good.
This to me is the issue with the 95% cap. At Melbourne - with their pay hierarchy - he probably actually thinks that 800k is genuinely what hes worth (comparing himself to Clark and Dawes and then Scully) - Id be shocked if any other club agreed to it. Even the Hawks who will be desperately looking for a key defender will probably baulk at that.
To be honest - I am quite happy to go with Delaney, Bruce and Simpkin for the next few years ahead.

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
I don't think we need him. He might come in as our best defender, but I think that our stocks are very adequate at the moment, and taking into account natural improvement that I expect from Delaney, Bruce, Roberton, Simpkin - we should have a very good backline when we are charging back up the ladder.
Our money could be better spent elsewhere.

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
The reason he's a half decent defender is the amount of practice he's had defending at Melbourne. But $800,000? Give me a break.
Apart from putting noses out of joint and wrecking our pay structure, it's an obscene amount to play for someone who is only half decent.

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
$450,000 at an absolute maximum. No real need and not the right age.
I'd rather plough $600k+ dollars into the best 21-22yo out there.

Re: $800,000 for Frawley
He is worth 800K to the hawks and one or two other clubs with a huge chance of winning the flag in the next couple of years. Hawks would be crazy not to pay that amount if he is the best player available as it seems they have the money because they lost Buddy. freo would also have the money and need a FB. We would be crazy to get him at that price. Its to early for FA for us. At least a year or maybe even 2 away. And the Dees would probably get pick 2 if they finished last. The rider is is it based on what he is getting from the demons or what he will get at his new club? Because if its based on the demons money they have no hope because he isnt in the top 10 paid players at the club.

Surely there aren't 10 blokes getting more than him? Clarke, Dawes, Trengrove, Jones, Watts… maybe Jamar at a stretch… who else do you reckon?
