4 goals in a quarter must be a sheer fluke. Get him on the plane to Perth.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

He missed part of the pre-season, and also needs to strengthen up.StPeter wrote:Wow what a second half by Billings. All class. Four goals already in last quarter and five for the game.
I don't think he will be playing many more games at this level.
I expect e will play quite a few seniors games this year, but that the club will be aware to not overplay him this year in the seasons.
He oozes class and polish though....salivating!!!!
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....

Easy to see why young Saint Jack Billings is so highly rated. Has class bursting from his boots. Has kicked 5 for Sandy in a sparkling debut

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Bruce and Simpkin were fantastic in the back half. Roberton wasn't as bad as has been written on here. Made a few mistakes in the first qtr but was good in the second half. Ross and weller were tough in the clinches, Billings is all class his skills are sublime. Markworth worked his way into it in the second half. Lee was good, Sipposs was disappointing again.
TDL and Milera were good when they had it but their defensive pressure is non existent

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Billings was very good, Simpkin and Lee did well, as always Dennis-lane and Milera did well but there's always the feeling this is their level. Didn't see a lot of Markworth but he did get a few touches, just good to see him out there. Siposs got a few touches but not demanding selection.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

5 goal wind in the last, and billings kicked 4 of them. Pretty good polish but needs some size, there are some big men playing for frankston.

Crikey Con. Give the kid a break. He's still only 19, is coming back from a busted wrist and is 196cm. His body will still be growing and developing. Because there was a bit of hype about him sprinting down the ground and drilling a goal there seems to be some expectation he's the next Buddy Franklin. Give him time to find his feet. People are at the cross-roads when they've had a few chances and are looking like they wont make it at senior level. Spencer hasn't even dipped his toe in the water yet.Con Gorozidis wrote: My only worries are Dylan and Spencer.

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Stats from https://twitter.com/TrueZebras:
Jack Billings 21 disposals, 6 marks, 3 tackles, 5 goals
Cam Shenton 24 disposals, 9 marks, 4 tackles
Adam Cockie 17 disposals
Josh Bruce 23 disposals, 9 marks
Seb Ross 18 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles
Myke Cook 19 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles
I saw most of the game on TV, here's a quick run-through of the players.
Munro: Looks tough if limited skills, did a good job on Taylor in the last.
Bennett: Medium size and willing but not the most agile, could be a handy forward for Sandy.
Cook: Not his best game but solid as always.
Flanagan: Didn't see heaps of him but looks a good size, tough enough for VFL too.
Ong: Bit of a livewire, still skinny but willing to go in and has solid skills.
Le Grice: Forced to go into the ruck a couple of times, didn't see much of him apart from that.
Cockie: Good as always, should win the B&F by a mile unless Billings pips him for it.
Shakallis: Handy bloke to have in the back pocket, limited with the footy but good defensive work.
Simpkin: Really good, looked very solid in defence and popped up all round the ground. Even if not quite good enough for AFL he's a very good VFL player.
Milera: In everything in the first half and faded in the second. Always looks dangerous, deserves another chance in the AFL.
Dennis-Lane: Very reliable small forward, always pops up with a few goals. But not good enough for AFL.
Lee: Good game, contested pretty well and got on the end of some nice passes. Kicked 4 straight.
Weller: Thereabouts in the midfield, looks tough but skills aren't great. Doesn't look quite an AFL player for mine.
Shenton: Very good game from him, really solid across half back and pretty creative as well. A couple of stupid mistakes kicking out from full back. Probably not AFL standard but very good here.
Bruce: Really consistent in defence, a couple of brain fades but went hard all day and was reasonable with the footy as well. Might see him at AFL level before long.
Minchington: Quite game though his defensive pressure was pretty good. Looks unlikely to get to AFL level.
Roberton: Easy to criticise on today's performance, pretty lackadaisical. Obviously has class but needs to get his head right.
Murdoch: Barely sighted.
Siposs: Lots of it in the first half but quieter in the second. Not sure what his position is. Missed a couple of reasonably easy goals. Probably needs another year of development to really become the midfielder they want him to be.
Billings: Quiet in the first half, unstoppable in the last quarter. Great disposal efficiency and just looks like a footballer. Needs a year or two on the weights to really hit his straps but obviously has the tools.
Ross: Got near it a lot, disposal was up and down but I haven't given up on him yet.
Markworth: Quiet, though looked classy when he could find the footy.
Holmes: A long way from it but he'll be better for the run. Was still trying hard in the last quarter so he's got the workrate.

I know all that. But it is a cut throat industry. Many many players don't get beyond their initial 2 year contract remember.
If you are only taking 1 mark in the VFL development game and ur not injured - then you have had a genuine shocker of a day. He was a pick 25. 1 mark and a report is a bad day. No sugar coating it.

This is fricking exciting. Honestly when was the last time a Saint in his first season really turned it on at Sandy?
I honestly cant remember the last time? Maybe Jack had a few big games a few years ago. But not much has happened since then.
Also today really quietens down the Sandy brigade who whinge that the Saints are 'holding them back' from glory and the Saints players aren't up to it. Sounds like the Saints players well and truly got them over the line today.

Thanks for the in-depth report bergholt.
Good to hear Bruce and Billings are up to it - as we spent a bit on getting both these guys.
Bruce wil become very important for us when Fisher and Dempster are gone.

And given how much VFL footy you have watched over the years - for you to say thats one of the best quarters of footy you will see from a player means something. Its a huge day. Starting to seem like our 2013 draft was well and truly epic. T Elshaugh take a bow.
Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Mmm...
Ben playing at BH in the two's .... Don't reckon?!
Impressed by
Mav Weller for hardness and leadership
Piers Flangan for line breaking
Adam a Cockie for clearance winning and tackling
Tom Lee for accuracy and presented well
Jack Billings for a fine last quarter
Bruce, Shenton and Smpkin were outstanding except for the mistakes they made...
Ross lots of Footy
Arryn a mixed game..
Small fwds were offensively good
Markworth, Roberton Murdoch were quiet but did some ok things.
Probably beaten in general play... But were more efficient.

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Saw most of the 2nd half.
Billings exciting.
Was very happy with Simpkin's game, will be promoted soon I think if he keeps performing like that.
Bruce, from what I saw, same as Simpkin.
Holmes, has a lot to learn, but, he was quite good in the ruck and won some very effective hit outs, probably the one part of the game he would be good at right now from his basketball background.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.
