Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Couldn't give a stuff about Sandy players. All I care about is St.Kilda and what's best for us.
Once we have our own VFL side Sandy can fold as far as I care.

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Point being, and missed?!
Our VFL team needs Sandy players (or Casey. As it was) to be reasonably competitive
And often, they were the best players in the team... Especially the big bodied on ballers like Harrison, Magner and Cockie... Who are easily the best VFL players we've had in the last decade
All B&F winners and premier ball winners
Even when we are standalone we will require extra players?
Particularly senior players...
We will need an overall list of at least 52 (8 injures in two teams would be minimum IMO)

StKilda agreed to it. Not much of an alignment if 22 Saitns are playing is it! Sandy have to get games into their players as they move towards being standalone. It's a good rule and it's not like there's much difference to previous years with the split between clubs.
Yeah if the Saints can afford to go standalone. Haha so yeah no chance..
I dont see how its funny we cant go stand alone. I see you have saints in your name so I gather you also follow our side and this is a saints site so its a pity we cant go stand alone. lets face it bugger all Saints will follow Sandy once we leave which like SP thinks its hopefully soon and this comes from a Sandy supporter. i certainly wont have an interest once we leave just like i couldnt give a stuff about the scorps. Anyway the sooner they get rid of this development sides the better it is for local footy. I know we have discussed this previously but its a waste of time and certainly wrecks local footy and it will be worse if the saints leave. The VFL need to stop it.
It just gets boring listening to people complain about amount Zebs playing in seniors and that its not good for Saints development. It's an alignment so give and take needs to be given from both sides whether people like it or not. At the end of the day without Sandringham we (stKilda) wouldnt have a team at all cos we cant afford it cos our administration has been basketcase for so long now.
I do agree that i cant wait til both clubs go standalone. One cos cant stand the way Saints are treating Sandringham so want them to get out on their own and two for the Saints development.
I have feeling once there is no more alignments then they will scrap the Development League. At moment they probably need keep it for clubs like Sandy to at least have their players playing together in some form each week.
I actually dont mind the rule od 8 to 10 Sandy players but what i object to on a saints website s you bagging the club you say you support for the other club that has bugger all to do with this website and hopefully nothing to do with it in 2 years. Even though we need Sandy to a point i would suggest sandy need us as well and probably more at this stage.

If your point was that we need more than 15 players to fulfil a VFL side, that's true.BigMart wrote:Point being, and missed?!

Outside of that you didn't really make any point, I don't think we have ever asked Cockie or Magner to play in the dev squad.

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Man why the disharmony .
Saints fan have come up with idea that a Stand Alone VFL side will be a panacea and silver bullet for their problems.
It won't. The fact is also that we can't afford one cos we are broke ass and have stuff all members and noone even bothers to go to games. So blaming Sandy seems pathetic.
I dot see why the alignment can't work.
It's not perfect but nothing is.
If saints play out of Moorabin and Sandy go back to being Sandy and they scrap the devwlopment league it's probably a good thing but it won't make a massive difference all up.
In the meantime I hope people can go and watch the Frankston Oval match this Saturday.

Our club can't dictate to Sandy to do everything we want. That's the issue.
If Sandy just bent over and let us effectively run them but under the zebra banner the alignment would be perfect. Sorta a Russian-type alignment

Why wish a football club that has tried to help the Saints such ill will.
I dont know how long Sandy has been around but the VFA was around along time before the VFL and AFL.
To hope a club folds, especially at that level weakens the who of Australian Rules football.
Very poorly thought out and extremely lazy thought processes to come to the above ignorant conclusions.

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Once we have a standalone VFL team the aspect of that team being competitive is relatively minor - the priority should be developing the players as best possible so that they can push for selection in the seniors. Being competitive in the league would be not such a big deal.BigMart wrote:

I dont see what the hassle is. We have 40 players on our list. There are always 5-8 players out through injury and suspension. The Saints require 22 players and usually a 23rd each week. We have to have Sandy players. I am just thankful that those players are of such a high quality. I would'nt have minded if we had picked up Cockie for the Saints. He always plays better than most of the St.Kilda players playing for Sandy.

Been a Sandy and st kilda man for 45!years and there was always a negative vibe about the saints until Barks got there he seemed to caress the unrest, but still it simmers,And the quote that alliances don't need to be successful is rubbish ,look at the Geelong VFL,teaches the kids how to win and how to maintain structure under pressure!

White in the 2's, but Holmes in the 1's?
White has played last 2 weeks in 1's, so it doesn't make much sense.

Re: VFL - Rd 1, Sandringham vs Frankston
Shenton has been a very solid player at VFL level. He might never make it but he's around the standard of a high level VFL player. Acres is coming from a long way back and will need to get basic fitness up more than anything. White seems to be considered a bit lazy but talented. His best is very good he just needs to apply himself more. He might be the type who gets on the big stage and rocks it though.dragit wrote:I think if you removed the saints players from that side it would get pumped by even more... It doesn't really mean anything because both sides would look completely different standalone.BigMart wrote:If you removed the Sandy players from that team... It would get pumped. (By more)
Adam Cockie, Myke Cook, Peter Shakalis are clearly the better players in the team.... Cockie by a mile!
Problem with the alignment over the years has been Saints getting (friendly) games. Nicholas Winmar, Sam Crocker, Jay Lever, Cam Shenton and some others got very undeserved games.
From what I've heard, whilst Spencer kicks a goal or two, he is sub par at VFL level.... And he's not the only one?
Whilst youngsters may be future players, often they are inferior to current 22-25yo VFL players.
This is the conundrum Sandy is faced with?!
How do you retain and attract good players... If they step aside for kids from StK who are not as often good?
Over the last 4 years.... If we were non-aligned we may not have won a game?
Better players since alignment have been
Biddlecombe, Sautner, Tregear, Gallagher, Summers, Magner, Marigliani, Lourey, Cockie, Shephard, Cooke, Shakalis, Michealidis
All good VFL players who stand up most weeks
The way you are talking the saints players are all bottom 6, but the fact is the past couple of years saints players have made up 3 & 4 of the top 5 B&F, this is with less games due to playing seniors and doesn't include your mate Ledger.
That said, I think a minimum of 8 Sandy players is fair, it won't hurt White & Acres to have a run around in the dev squad, if they play well enough it will only be for one week.
