Spencer White in the development squad

Seniors:

B: Bruce, Simpkin, Shakallis
HB: Flanagan, Roberton, Shenton
C: Ross, Markworth, Cook
HF: Bennett, Siposs, Dennis-Lane
F: Dunell, Lee, Minchington
R: Longer, Cockie, Weller
Int: Murdoch, White, Ong, Billings, Holmes, Milera, Le Grice*, Barnhoorn, Munro

Reserves:

B: Kreymborg, McTaggart, Beech
HB: Davis, Hudghton, Dawes
C: Weickhardt, Banfield, Acres
HF: Graham, Dowler, Blenkinsop
F: Tiernan, White, Spencer
R: Kelso, Zijai, Maitland
Int: Verma, Eimutis, Ritchie, Daidone, Gottliebsen

Not a lot of height in these sides, at least from the Saints players. Surprising that Dowler's not in the 1s given the lack of tall forwards and ruck options - did he do something wrong in the off-season? And you'd think Spencer would get a game in the 1s as well.

Interesting to see how the Saints defenders go against Lourey and Haretuku, some solid goal-kicking power there. And presumably Gabriel will destroy Holmes in the ruck if Longer's not there.

So Longer to Perth - which means Spencer may sneak a game in the main game.

If Sandy cant win this match with 15 odd Saints listed players - then the Saints have some serious issues with their list and/or development.

Longer flew to Perth but not the other two emergencies.

I think there's a restriction on the amount of Saints listed players that can play for Sandy hence Spencer in the development squad. Not sure why he was chosen instead of Lee whose been in horrible form. By all reports Spencer has been quite serviceable and snagged a cuppla goals per game in the praccy matches.

Old Mate is correct, there is restriction to amount Saints that can play each week. Min 8 Zebras have to play seniors each week under new alignment agreement so can expect surprises like White/Acres to have to play Dev Squad at various times of year.

Any idea what's happened to Dowler, thunda? Just not good enough or a bit of a punishment?

Think it's just more case others are ahead of him on form & already have quite few forwards in side. Josh Bennett is one those that shohld watch out for, son of former Saint.

Overall I actually think this is the strongest team they've named in while.

Thanks mate, good to hear. Josh Bennett at 189/89 is a reasonable size for VFL - actually a very similar size to Siposs and Dunell who might both have found their level there. (Not giving up yet but they are a bit betwixt and between at AFL level.) Looks a pretty mobile forward line with Lee being the biggest of them.

Looking forward to watching a bit on Saturday!

What a stupid rule. No wonder alignments are a thing of the past.

Any chance of our own team a year early in 2015?

StKilda agreed to it. Not much of an alignment if 22 Saitns are playing is it! Sandy have to get games into their players as they move towards being standalone. It's a good rule and it's not like there's much difference to previous years with the split between clubs.

Yeah if the Saints can afford to go standalone. Haha so yeah no chance..

I dont see how its funny we cant go stand alone. I see you have saints in your name so I gather you also follow our side and this is a saints site so its a pity we cant go stand alone. lets face it bugger all Saints will follow Sandy once we leave which like SP thinks its hopefully soon and this comes from a Sandy supporter. i certainly wont have an interest once we leave just like i couldnt give a stuff about the scorps. Anyway the sooner they get rid of this development sides the better it is for local footy. I know we have discussed this previously but its a waste of time and certainly wrecks local footy and it will be worse if the saints leave. The VFL need to stop it.

It just gets boring listening to people complain about amount Zebs playing in seniors and that its not good for Saints development. It's an alignment so give and take needs to be given from both sides whether people like it or not. At the end of the day without Sandringham we (stKilda) wouldnt have a team at all cos we cant afford it cos our administration has been basketcase for so long now.

I do agree that i cant wait til both clubs go standalone. One cos cant stand the way Saints are treating Sandringham so want them to get out on their own and two for the Saints development.

I have feeling once there is no more alignments then they will scrap the Development League. At moment they probably need keep it for clubs like Sandy to at least have their players playing together in some form each week.

If you removed the Sandy players from that team... It would get pumped. (By more)

Adam Cockie, Myke Cook, Peter Shakalis are clearly the better players in the team.... Cockie by a mile!

Problem with the alignment over the years has been Saints getting (friendly) games. Nicholas Winmar, Sam Crocker, Jay Lever, Cam Shenton and some others got very undeserved games.

From what I've heard, whilst Spencer kicks a goal or two, he is sub par at VFL level.... And he's not the only one?

Whilst youngsters may be future players, often they are inferior to current 22-25yo VFL players.
This is the conundrum Sandy is faced with?!

How do you retain and attract good players... If they step aside for kids from StK who are not as often good?

Over the last 4 years.... If we were non-aligned we may not have won a game?

Better players since alignment have been
Biddlecombe, Sautner, Tregear, Gallagher, Summers, Magner, Marigliani, Lourey, Cockie, Shephard, Cooke, Shakalis, Michealidis

All good VFL players who stand up most weeks

I think if you removed the saints players from that side it would get pumped by even more... It doesn't really mean anything because both sides would look completely different standalone.

The way you are talking the saints players are all bottom 6, but the fact is the past couple of years saints players have made up 3 & 4 of the top 5 B&F, this is with less games due to playing seniors and doesn't include your mate Ledger.

That said, I think a minimum of 8 Sandy players is fair, it won't hurt White & Acres to have a run around in the dev squad, if they play well enough it will only be for one week.
