Nice initiative from the club

Post: # 1445118Post Enrico_Misso »

Apparently the club gave out about 600 free tickets to the GWS game during Monash orientation week.
Gave them all a kit - so things like a scarf etc.
The tickets were Level 3 general admission.

I guess for many of them it was their first AFL game.
- some from overseas
- some from the country
- and some from families where their parent(s) never bothered to take them to a game

Obviously our ponytails feel there is a good likelihood that a healthy percentage of them will regard themselves now as Sainters.
And a small percentage may decide (even if it is in a few years when their income is a bit better) to become paid up members.

I think it is a good thing to do.

We should be doing more of this.
Handing out similar packs to
- people taking out Australian citizenship
- people moving to Victoria from interstate
etc.

I like it too EM.

We could have some cultural classes as well where we basically just explain - look if ur moving to Melbourne - whether you work in a factory or you are an engineer doctor student nurse teacher drug addict whatever it doesnt matter - you pretty much have to have a footy team. And if you live in the Sth East - then basically you have to go for the Mighty Sainters.

So don't fight it just get on board !

Ps you also have to hate Eddie, the Pies, the Swans, Darce and anyone who tries to cheat (eg Bombers and Blues).

Now carry on.

Target the Chinese/overseas students/everyone and anyone!

As long as they keep the communication up to fans like the weekly coaches video email and the like ill be happy.

Stuff like that is cheap and easy to do and can only help.

I actually noticed a few groups of uni-aged Asian women sitting near me - I found it interesting as I wouldn't expect this demographic to be footy, let alone, Saints supporters. Maybe they were Monash students. Some were wearing supporter gear too.

Great initiative and the club just needs to do more and more of this over our rebuilding years.

Funny, I'm a Moansh student and I didn't get offered a free ticket during O Week, but if this is true then it is a good idea because there is a large number of young people who aren't engaged with the footy and could potentially be won over.

Great post Enrico, with some great ideas! :D And great work by our club! :D

Things are picking-up on the PR front. Anyone know who's behind the turnaround? (Maybe it's you Enrico?)

And here comes another 2.3 million potential new Saintas. :D
... The demographic survey shows we’re growing at the rate of 1.8 per cent a year, with about 60 per cent of that growth coming from net overseas migration and 40 per cent from births outnumbering deaths...

If that 1.8 per cent rate is maintained, applying it to the population clock figure means there will be another 2.3 million of us in five years...

That’s a lot more demand for everything from shoes to hospitals, housing to coffee cups, to the only decent football club that there is, namely the wonderfully enigmatic and way-cool 140 year old red-white-and-black tripaneled institution that is the St Kilda Football Club. 8-) Along with the on-going growth in demand for natural resources from the developing world, our population growth provides a bedrock for investment.

As I’ve said before, how good is it to be in business or be an investor in a country where if you do nothing, your market grows by 1.8 per cent a year.

How terrible must it be to have a domestic business in Japan where your market shrinks every year. Japan has a population problem – we don’t...

That would be part of them.
We are hosting a Chinese student attending Monash and she was there with a group of her friends.
They all got the free supporter package.
I've tried to get her to attend games before and explain the rules to her.
She's a lovely girl but she basically has zero interest in all sports.
So for her it was a social thing.
She said she didn't understand what was happening but liked it when they kicked a goal and everyone yelled.

Anyway lets hope some of them become StKilda supporters.

Conversely we are also hosting a German exchange high school student for 10 weeks.
Took him to the Melbourne game and he loved it.
Insisted on coming to the Giants game and was as nervous as we were in the last quarter.
Hopefully will get another 2 live games under his belt before he goes home.
He'll go home with as a Sainter with a scarf and an AFL addiction. :D

I was sitting near them, I think. Level 3, Bay 30. Good to see. Also, I saw some people I know from disadvantaged backgrounds at the footy wearing St Kilda scarves and St Kilda express badges. I said to them, I didn't know you followed the Saints. They said they hadn't, but they had been given free tickets, and they do now. There is nothing wrong with this - the club needs to build that goodwill back up again.

Particularly in a season where our crowds will be down as the bandwaggoners go in to hibernation it makes sense to give away free tickets to targeted groups.

Great Idea Enrico.
We all complain about Collingwood's membership numbers, let's try and undermine their core constituency.
Give freebie tickets out at:
-Tattoo shops
-Bikie clubs
-prison gates

We could target Bridge clubs or Senior Citizens clubs to get some new young talent in to the Cheer Squad.

That's right - Hell, The Swans and Brisbane have been doing it for decades - to their 'supporters'
ever wonder where those missing gate receipts went ...
