Favourite saints player who played with a injury
Dear Fellow saintsationists
I am just thinking about a couple years back when Seanny D played with a broken hand and lenny with his faulty ticker I thought as i am only a young lad i wouldn't know as much as you guys on here. What are some other stories about sainters playing with or through an injury

I do remember quite a few of the players playing with serious hangovers In the 80"s!

Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
Clint Jones has been playing for seven years without a right foot.

Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
They certainly played like they had a collective hangover
Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
Nearly all left footers do?!
Lefties rarely need to kick on the non dominant
In fact in modern footy with all protection being so critical and turn overs being so huge.... Coaches loathe players using there non dominant... Happen less than 5% of the time
Even BJ who is dual sided... Rarely ever uses his right?

BJ is naturally right footed.BigMart wrote:Nearly all left footers do?!

Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
Notwithstanding 2008, I always thought that G always played better when he was injured.
His performances were even better given that he had hand/finger injuries.
When supposedly fully fit, he couldn't get near it.

I was there when Rod Owen did his hamstring, went to full forward and kicked a bag on his left.
Had his leg heavily strapped and could hardly walk.
He had the natural ability equal of Plugger but was cruelled by injury.

Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
What tosh.
Gilbert got caught numerous times last year because no one fell for the shimmy.
That said..... Don't put yourself in the position.
Look at hird.,Kicked on his left twice in god knows how many years.....because he never put himself in the situation where he would have to use the left.
Didn't g train play with a busted thumb for a while?
Bj in the gf
Lenny and his knee

What about the St Kilda team (and I " m not sure of the full story) that won with 14 or 16 players I believe a medal was struck in their honour back in the 20"s or 30"s!

Used it twice in the first quarter last week! Point taken though!

Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
One thing about Owen is that he was gutless. Liked a fight in the pub and was a scary drunk but hated going for the hard ball. Would rather give someone a cheap elbow than put his head down to go into a contested situation. Did it time and time again. Had no courage for the contest. Talent to burn and a pea heart.

Re: Favourite saints player who played with a injury
1966 Stkilda v hawthorn last game of the season at moorabbin. D Baldock with badly injured knee selected as 19th man. Stkilda was well behind at 3/4 time. Jeans was quoted as saying when asked why he played the injured Baldock, "It was either play him today or wait for the night series". Baldock came on at 3/4 time to the roar of the crowd. He lead the way, his teammates lifted and Stkilda went on to win the game. The win meant Stkilda went into the finals series in 2nd place. No Baldock in that game would have meant no Premiership. We would all still be waiting.

Cruelled himself with some pathetic St Kilda management…1966 wrote:I was there when Rod Owen did his hamstring, went to full forward and kicked a bag on his left.

This one for sure.Old Mate wrote:Lenny Hayes played almost an entire game with a torn ACL against North in 2006
Also, as another poster mentioned - that game against North where we ended up with about 14 fit players in the 30s and a medal was commemorated for all the players in their honour. I'm fairly sure Alan Killigrew might have had a famous hand in that one ...
The Saints are coming!
