Mmm
Are we suggesting there were times in 2012 that he wasn't MOVING poorly? He was clearly battling his knee and lost flexibility with his hammy tear.
The engine remained, the ability of course... His agility was gone at that point in time.. He couldn't bend, turn, and was poor on the deck... He also couldn't chase and pressure... He was playing, as per usual on heart... His body was not good?
Why did Roo not play in Perth last year?
He was strategically rested
He doesn't train with the main group often.
He has managed his body well since 2012

Nice to see you reading me. How do you know he doesnt train with the main group often? lets face it you dont know. And you just never get it BM. After one game in 2012, yes thats one game you told everyone on here he moved like a super rules player and you said it from watching on TV where you can see leads and then re leads. It was silly comment based on one game and from 600 K away.

Riewoldt is a freak.
Carey could not maintain sustained excellence into 30s, Brereton not, Hart not, Brown not, Tredrea not
Sustained excellence at CHF is a rare thing... Most either retire from wear and tear... Or move to another position?
Lucky to still be playing according to one poster.
Re: Captain Fantastic
Is that accurate
Bit like
"We shouldn't have drafted Cripps BECAUSE he had no photo" that was a not entirely true was it? And a touch out of context?!
It was a suggestion that Cripps was not as well known as some yet to be picked, which we had a habit of doing?
Funny thing, is Cripps turned out to be very very average... And a poor selection IMO (like Crocker) not because of the photo crap... But because he is not tough, durable or good enough for AFL footy it seems
"He is moving like a super rules player"
I would suggest, whilst an exaggeration of course, and a throw away line... He was moving very POORLY at that stage. The suggestion he was a super rules standard player and he was done is a joke and is purely creative license taken by the best in the business... And of course ridiculous... Nick, Lenny and Robert are the players who I rate as the very best... I don't think I would suggest they are anything but champions. Making a comment about his injury riddled fitness during a game is no big deal?!
Is every debate going to come back to those comments? Whilst both a bit emotional... I don't really back away from either because know the context and also know your motivation you use when trotting them out?
I was actual lay waiting for such pathetic comment
I can't even be positive without gutless attacks
Predictable, boring and weak

Firstly Cripps is not very very average. Players dont play that many games for 2 different clubs if they are very very average but I would never expect you to admit wrong. Its never happened so why would you start now. And you said the photo thing. No one else said it. As for the Rooy thing the point i am making is you based the comment that he moves like a super rules player after one hole game in 2012. yes thats one game and worse still you based it from your couch. How can anyone tell how many leads a player is making from TV and how they are moving. I have watched plenty of footy on TV and it is impossible to know that. And you cant be positive because you always find a negative even when trying to be positive. And how is it weak attcking your comments that you made. No one else. if you make pathetic comments then you will get replies. You deserve to.
By the way still reading I see.
Re: Captain Fantastic
Before I got too pissed last night, I stopped ball watching and watched Nick for about five minutes in the second quarter.
The guy just does not stop moving, sprinting on a lead, doubling back, leading again, a third time, and then gets it on his chest with his opponent 5-8 metres behind.
I haven't seen him move as well for a couple of years. I dont know if it is psychological, the fact we are no hope of a flag and he is truly excited about the young Saints.
However physically your body has to allow it to occur. Wasn't moving like a super rules player. In fact he wasn't playing like an AFL player either because I dont think I have ever seen a player go with a fit Riewoldt.
Out and out champion who is a long way off past it

What round is it?....
Seriously,if he's gonna to look in good 'Nick' R1 would be the one to do it.... I think most R1 games over the last few years he's dominated. Because...
He's had 4 months to get cherry ripe, and only played a couple of praccie games?
Hope he continues to manage his body well, it's a long season... And we KNOW he carries a degenerative knee!

Great enthusiasm from him.
We were much better when he roamed inside 50.
Better for us, better for him.

Many players injured R1. Many players underdone round 1.
Were you at the game last night? If not you dont know what he was doing off camera.
He looked great, and for a bloke you wrote off in ROUND ONE two years ago, he was as good and moving as freely as I have seen in years.

Wrote off or commented on how he was moving?! Did I say he was done?
Don't be as bad as P66?!
Struggling to bend, not getting up from marking contests.. struggling to chase? He was even highlighted on vision!
He looked pristine last night...
He's now managing his body well during the week... All about recovery.

Re: Captain Fantastic
Saw him not being able to bend at the end of the 2005 season. Was so sore he looked like he needed to rest for a month.
Saying a player moves like a super rule player is basically saying he is finished at AFL level.
He is far from finished. Actually looks better than over the past few years.
Also kicking straight.
His work on his opponent was anything but like a 31 y.o. and dont you think he has been professional in his recovery until now?
Curious

Re: Captain Fantastic
Why couldn't he bend in 2005? Missed a month with a collarbone, but was not as worn out as 2011 onwards when he had more knee surgery
Post knee surgery he would have definitely changed his training loads.... And has been modified for about 4 years now...

One of rooeys best ever captains games IMO. Not only did he work over several opponents like we are used to but I thought his chasing and tackling were back to 09 standards. His smother and effort near the bench in the 3rd quarter was inspirational. Hope he's got another 3 years in him

These are your words after the first game in 2012.
Hard to watch....
Like Ponting, Fenech, Ian Thorpe and Michael Schumacher......he is now a former champion.....
He was getting beaten with ease today and whilst his typical 100% effort is admirable, he looks like a battered and beaten man
He moves like a super rules player, gee he'd be handy in my team.....
If that is writing a player off then i will give it away. Please stop trying to pretend anything else.

Re: Captain Fantastic
Funny about Cripps.......... that 'soft' 'weak' player you labelled in his first year of ALF footy at the Saints (whilst he was undergoing issues with his diabetes and the related compartment syndrome in his leg)........... played serviceable games for WC Eagles last season............ and I've just tuned into the Eagles/Bullies match that's being played today, & Cripps is continuing on......... Cripps was putting in a very impressive first quarter of hard gut running in 34 degree heat to slot through 2 hard earned goals ...... not bad for a very, very average player. Lucky West Coast saw a photo of him, and thought....... it can take time for youth to develop, especially when they have health issues in their first season...........BigMart wrote:

Bit like Raph Clarke.......... now who called him lazy, and poor on the training track etc, etc? Again a young lad in his first season of AFL football, living away from home............. battling with health issues (epilepsy).
I'm surprised someone who said they were a teacher would be so judgemental of recruits so young at the start of their footy careers.
I guess jury will be out on whether Cripps will turn out to be 'soft', 'weak' (I note you are now using the terminology of 'not tough') and just very, very average.
As long as it's not against the Saints in a few weeks time, I hope Cripps goes on to have a stellar career, and fulfil the potential our recruiters originally saw in him.

I thought he was magnificent. Frankly, he is so good at that stuff it is genuinely hard to see us appointing anyone else as captain in the next 2 years, given the media cross we have to bear.
I thought the panel was almost half hearted in their failed attempts to corner him. Even Hutchy was forced to say nice things ...

3.0 compared to 1.2 is the reason everyone is singing Roo's praise.
If he's been able to do that consistently over the past 6-7 years he'd be spoken if in the last breath as Carey.
But he hasn't, which is why people still question him.

Without looking is his goal kicking average much worse than carey though. remember Roo leads more to the pockets than carey ever did so its harder to kick goals in those positions.

Another area that NORMALLY defines most big key forwards is physical intimidation.Johnny Member wrote:3.0 compared to 1.2 is the reason everyone is singing Roo's praise.

Riewoldt compensates for lacking this by running opponents into submission!

Loris
I too watched Cripps play WB
He did what he did for StK.... Got on the end of the play and kicked a couple of TO goals...
He got 13 touches... Had 8 at three qtr time.. In a team that was belting the WB
He is 4th year as a high draft pick.... I actually think he is going to eek out a reasonable career, perhaps 100 games?
But what I didn't like
Was him pulling out of two contests in one game at Frankston oval, fact is he took short steps.....only metres from me. There is no excuse for that, for an elite footballer? It's not an age thing, it's not a confidence thing, a compartment injury thing, a die eyes thing... None of these enter your mind in the split second when the ball spills in your direction... It's just an innate thing a footballer does, and that's take his turn when he has to and put his nose over the Sherrin!
Tom Curran, Nate Wright, Arryn Siposs or any other elite kid just goes, doesn't ever hesitate, doesn't ever deviate, it doesn't even enter their mind... To do anything other than try to win the footy!!
Kids who do think, hesitate or deviate/shirk often get found out, or they never reach their skill potential
This area of footy - hardness
Will always be an issue for Jamie.... And it will have to be an area he works on improving IMO
Good luck to him
