Re: Congratulation Luke Dunstan- Rd 1 Rising star

http://www.saints.com.au/video/2014-03- ... nominationBut little more than a week earlier, Dunstan was left cursing his luck as his prospects of making his AFL debut looked in doubt.
A rolled ankle at training had flared up, and after a full first pre-season which had gone so well, he was suddenly wondering whether an injury would stop his surge towards a round-one start for the Saints.
"I trained right through to the end and it was fine, but about 15 minutes after I left training I sat down and it really stiffened up," Dunstan told AFL.com.au.
"That night I was probably a little bit nervous. We had the season launch and it was pretty sore during that and I was in a fair bit of pain. But it wasn't too bad the next morning and I went from there."
While the mood at the club was buoyant after the win, Dunstan wasn't sure whether his summons to meet with the coaches on Monday morning was a good or bad sign.
"I got a phone call from the footy manager Chris Pelchen and I didn't know if I was in trouble or what I'd done," Dunstan said. "I went in and 'Richo' (coach Alan Richardson) and all of the coaches were in a room and he told me I'd got the nomination.
"I honestly hadn't even thought about it so it was a nice surprise."

Re: Congratulation Luke Dunstan- Rd 1 Rising star
I am so excited about this. What a great week for the club. I hope he does win a brownlow, but geez, big call, they are hard to win.
I hope we have a heap of rising star winners by the end of the season.

Re: Congratulation Luke Dunstan- Rd 1 Rising star
Can you be nominated more than once? It looks like most of our previous nominations were only nominated once (going by tables posted above). You would have thought Roo would have been nominated more than once. I'm not really up with all of the Rising Star rules so just asking.FQF wrote:How many players have been nominated on debut?
And yes, how many have been nominated on debut? Good question.

Once a year. And I would guess plenty on debut but no idea of the numbers.

unless it's changed-
you can only be nominated once per year.
in recent year I think there was someone nominated twice- once in each year
Eligibility and nominations[edit]
Every round, an Australian Football League rising star nomination is given to a standout young player whom performed well during that particular round. To be eligible to be nominated for the award, a player must be younger than 21 years of age on 1 January of the award year and have played 10 or fewer senior games before the beginning of the season. A player who is suspended[notes 1] during the season is not eligible to win the award, however is still eligible for nomination.[3]
At the end of the season, nine AFL personalities (typically administrators and All-Australian team selectors) vote for five of the twenty-two nominees, with their top selections earning five votes, their second selection earning four votes, etc. The player who receives the most votes is the winner.
someone almost always has to be nominated on debut- unless they have just played a couple the year before...

And of course Sheahan said on OTT that Daniher should have won.
Grudgingly said "good on him" about Dunstan. Didn't say a thing about his game

Right. Beetham and Begley got noms that year as well. And Moyle in 2000, X Clarke got a nomination after Rooey in 2002, Goddard and Ball along with Joey in 03, Raph Clarke in 2005.Sobraz wrote:Kosi won it too. 2001?On the Ball wrote:Current StK players who have had a Rising Star nomination (year/round):

Nope. At a glance, his best chance was round 4, 2008 - his fourth game. He had 20 touches, five clearances and kicked a couple of goals.Spinner wrote:None for Armitage?
But the nomination went to Kieran Jack. Who had 9 touches and kicked one goal. Looks a bit funny in hindsight!
