Re: Beau Maister
At the ground our delivery to the forwards was awful. They make the forwards mark below their knees or stretch to the point of snapping tendons. Rooey makes it look flattering but very rarely did he get an easy one. I think Lee will get in front of him but he does the back up tall forward roll okay. He worked really hard at the ground. He ran about 100 meters to help cause a turn over that came back for a goal. He presents well and works off the ball.

Re: Beau Maister
This is very true. If we're going to improve we need someone to put their hand up to take his place. Probably the only ones in the ressies would be Lee and White but neither of them has shown they deserve a game ahead of him.bergholt wrote:SANFL or WAFL level, isn't it?SainterK wrote:There is this realm between AFL and VFL, and that's where Beau exists
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.
Re: Beau Maister
Beau has three problems.
1. He's always wrestling his opponent and standing still when the ball is kicked to him.
2. He cannot take a one grab mark (he needs to practice with soap applied to the footy)
3. He ends up crushing the pack every time, half the time spoiling our own players - ie Hickey tonight.
Gives his heart and goes in tough, but he needs to fix up those 3 points, then he'll be alright.
Imo, he was played because we needed him to take the big man Frawley.
Other disappointing players tonight were Roberton and Savage.

Re: Beau Maister
Maister will play again this week.
He's no Tony Lockett but he's the best we've got in his role.
Until Lee can at least get a kick in the VFL that's how it will remain.

Maister has an amazing grimace.
Has anyone seen an AFL player with a better grimace?

I don't care how bad a guy is going, I HATE hearing Bronx cheers from a St Kilda crowd.
The guys a battler, and struggled on one of the best full backs in the comp... Kept trying though.

We have to hope White develops into a top liner. Does anyone know how Spencer went yesterday? Did he get a game for Sandy firsts?
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

At least it may indicate he's trying really hard. That, or his haemorrhoids are playing up.ralphsmith wrote:Maister has an amazing grimace.

Yep. Played in Sandy Senior side.White Winmar wrote:We have to hope White develops into a top liner. Does anyone know how Spencer went yesterday? Did he get a game for Sandy firsts?
Kicked 2 plus 1 goal assist. Was described as 'hot and cold but his hot is boiling'. Took two massive marks I believe.
I think he had a good 1/4 in the 3rd but was relatively quiet apart from that.
He is just warming up though. Remember that scaphoid injury held him back a year and he is still only 19.
Thanks to Stkildathunda for the in depth Sandy analysis.

Agree - I'm a big believer in the old adage that all fans can ask for is a player gives his all.dragit wrote:I don't care how bad a guy is going, I HATE hearing Bronx cheers from a St Kilda crowd.

And for me Maister gives his all. Gets the most out of his abilities.
It's not his fault he gets picked and is our best full fwd.
It's someone else's job to push him out of the side.
Fans should support a guy like that.

Re: Beau Maister
Beau was playing well before he broke his hand last year (was it the match in Wellington?). He was operating as a good foil for Reiwoldt. I can recall Rooey saying that Maister took considerable opposition attention away from him because of his hardness at the ball and work leading up the ground.
However since that broken hand he appears to have difficulty clunking the ball in his mitts.

He has never been able to consistently hold marks at AFL level. Tries to tap it down to himself, which works often in VFL, virtually never works against the big boys

Totally agree re the Bronx cheers, but I am not sure who he was playing on was the issue.dragit wrote:I don't care how bad a guy is going, I HATE hearing Bronx cheers from a St Kilda crowd.

I was frustrated with the amount of marks he dopped off of his chest or hands, nothing to do with good defenders as he was not spoilt it was purely poor execution on his own behalf.
Fairly sure that Georgiou was on him, certainly appeared so when I got home and watched the first quarter on replay.

there was very little crumbing activity from our side, feeling the loss of milne & saad at the same time. saad would've been good last night.joffaboy wrote:Milne would have kicked 6 tonight at Maisters feet

I don't mind 'Der Meistersinger '. He's wearing a Saints jumper and having a red hot go. That's all I care about. He'll get a game for as long as he's playing a role for the team.
Just 'cause Finey doesn't like him......that's irrelevant .
Who cares what he looks like?

Re: Beau Maister
Perhaps he should be a defender instead? He is a ringer of Trey Parker in the movie BASEketball. He could try to psyche out his opponents by yelling out "miss it! STEVE PERRY"Bernard Shakey wrote:loris wrote:Beau was playing well before he broke his hand last year (was it the match in Wellington?). He was operating as a good foil for Reiwoldt.
