Post your apologies to Clinton Jones here...
39 possessions. Seriously did not see a back kick. Someone has to get the ball regardless. Good on you CJ, stuck it right up em.

He's a good player, will finish top 10 in the B&F again this year... For what about the 5th straight year?!

A really good and consistent player who always plays his role selflessly. One of my favorite players.

Not sure why he'd not be in the best 22... He's easily in the best 12 players at the club... Therefore the best 22?

Re: Post your apologies to Clinton Jones here...
I won't apologise for my early observations, I stand by them…
Many of his early disposals put his team mate under enormous pressure when he didn't need to…
Plenty of his early kicks although went in the right direction, were looping enough to enable the opposition players to spoil.
All that aside, he was certainly in our best and his disposal became more measured and effective.
Very good game overall. Appreciate it CJ - well done!

Have never bagged him. Gives so much effort and just goes in head first into every contest and has the great ability to get to contest after contest more so than most players from any team.
Well played CJ.

Re: Post your apologies to Clinton Jones here...
I don't u/s what there is to apologise for
Clint Jones today was our senior and most experienced midfielder
He was playing in a midfield that was underdone/prepared and against an oppsotion midfield that was not amongst the better ones.
He should have been amongst if not our best midfielder... and he was.
He played to the standard that was expected of him... ok he played even better than that
I don't want to criticise Clint for playing an excellent game but you're kidding yourself if you think a 40 possession game from Melbourne justifies us persevering with him.
Clint should be consistently amongst our best players... the first 1/2 of last season he wasn't. He looked average. The second half of the season he improved markedly.
He had an excellent start tonight, but tonight's circumstance was why he was kept around

Re: Post your apologies to Clinton Jones here...
Apology?
Your're dreaming.
He was TERRIBLE early on, his disposals were panicky afterthoughts that put people under pressure.
Came good late in the game, but like Dragit and Skeptic have said he was in a young team, against poor opposition.
8/10

His running ability gets him into positions that no other player would find themselves. His position is safe at the moment.

Talk about underated...and I'm not talking about the skills side of Clint, I mean underated for being a Saints player. His club needed him tonight, asked him to be the play maker and not the tagger and he delivered. What more does the guy have to do to get some respect.skeptic wrote:I don't u/s what there is to apologise for

At one time he was the BEST tagger in the game (he's still right up there)

Terrible kick and decision-maker over a career. Let's not take away from that.

Re: Post your apologies to Clinton Jones here...
There were countless posters mystified at how he was selected despite the fact that our three best mids were out and our next best from 2013 is playing for north. So for some reason his attributes are not as obvious to some as you make out skeptic. Four successive AFL coaches clearly rate him. But the experts on here want 22 blokes who kick like Goddard.skeptic wrote:I don't u/s what there is to apologise for

It just doesn't work like that. Mitchell, Priddis, carraZo, Even Lenny had all had question marks about their disposal over their careers. thing is, they get the footy, and it's damn hard to get precision disposal out when you have ten blokes around you, tackling you etc. people who don't rate CJ at all just don't understand football

Are you sure he is a terrible kick? Do you have stats to back that statement up?The Redeemer wrote:Terrible kick and decision-maker over a career. Let's not take away from that.
I'd suggest that his kicking effiency is right up there. His kicking action looks awkward, but he does find targets !!

His first action is negative. He looks to always kick backwards even forward of centre.Eastern wrote:Are you sure he is a terrible kick? Do you have stats to back that statement up?The Redeemer wrote:Terrible kick and decision-maker over a career. Let's not take away from that.

I've bagged him for years.
He was/is STILL at times....A s*** KICK.
Simple as that. It is the one glaring deficiency in his game.
