Headline at end of year

"Saints snare No1. Draft pick - believed to be better than Boyd/Patton combined"

Followed by

"TDL offered 5 year deal by Blues"

A rising star would be good...premiership teams usually have one of those in them.

Just been trying to dig into this a bit further and came across this article <http://www.saints.com.au/news/2014-03-1 ... ical-richo>

In the article our coach says the following:

"How this ‘spirit’ manifests itself will not be guided by ladder position or overall results, but rather specific statistical key performance indicators that can be measured on a quarter-by-quarter and week-by-week basis."

Anyone want to hazard a guess at what these indicators are?

I remember hearing Farren Ray interviewed last year and he mentioned (probably inadvertantly) the phrase "attack indicators" - I imagine the coach is referring to "defence indicators" - I'm interested in hearing what people think they are.

Here are mine:

1. Tackles
2. Hard Ball Gets
3. Second and Third Efforts

Any others?

Would like to see us become the fittest and hardest hitting team in the comp. Terrier like tenacity all over the park - gang tackling and running to space. Clean disposal and hitting targets would be nice as the cream on top.

I dont want to be a negative nelly - but I can remember Mark Neeld saying almost the identical thing at his first press conference for Melbourne.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-06-17/m ... -in-quotes

Mark Neeld at his first press conference
"I simply want to coach the team that's the hardest to play against in the AFL … That means all over the ground we're going to be the hardest to play against. There will be a number of components that come with that."
So take it with a pinch of salt.

After this press conference Neeld went on to demote his hardest player (N Jones) and sack 25yo hardnuts Maloney and Brock Mclean.

What a f_head he was.

I agree with this, but would also like to add Seb Ross and Jack Newnes have very solid back halves to the season, such that they would expect to enter, from next year, the Armitage/Steven coming-of-age phase; Stanley emerge as a genuine talent; Markworth show he is somethin' real special.

Essendon deregistered for good

GCS & GWS go through the season only losing to each other, the league realises that the colossal monsters they have created need refining, both have their salary caps reduced and will be excluded from the 1st round of the next 5 drafts. O'Meara & Boyd are both offered lucrative 'ambassador' roles paid for by the AFL, outside of the cap... If they join St Kilda.

We commit to the junction after a huge grant is promised.

Carlton keep Malthouse.

Lenny & Roos wives both fall pregnant with twin boys.

That would do me, short of a flag.
As silly as your first point sounds, I almost entirely agree with it. GWS and GCS should not receive a compensation pick this year (2014), and they both should be excluded from the first round of draft picks in 2015.
