Dunstan as the sub?

Both surprising.

Curren will struggle being half forward and on the bench...at the same time

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Dunnell trains the house down and kicks beautifully - he set up some forward thrusts and kicked a goal in the imaginary posts from an intercept mark and play on. He might actually still be a player. Dunstan is an instant celebrity already with people waiting to speak to him tonight. I think Dunstan gets the gig just because we have utilities just not mids.

Gilbert didn't run at training and he and Acres handballed to each other. Fisher said the medical staff were cautious with him as he has had a few set backs and that he hoped to play round one. Not training usually isn't the best warm up though. Markworth and Milera both said they wanted to get some conditioning at sandy before making their way into the AFL proper. White expected to get some games this year too but has been building the fitness up until now after injuries.

Whats with the 7 backs? Went out about 4 years ago. Now we play a plus one but that comes from a defensive midfield player.

Surprised you have left out Roberton.
Was one of the best finds for us last year.

I thought Dunnell didn't stand much of a chance this year to make it, but seeing as Tony (who knows the ins and outs of training) has selected him, I might have to reconsider.

Hope the forwards mark the ball as its coming straight back out if they don't, not a lot of forward pressure there. Personally I think we can oly play three off Roo, Maister, Stanley and Lee up forward and need the small players too have some pace so wold look at Saunders on a flank.

Bruce ahead of Delaney is Interesting and also Dunnell being in.

The interesting player down back for me is Gwilt, no doubt he will play but I do not think he has a match up if they go with Howe and Fitzpatrick maybe Pederson if he plays.

Definitely would want Dunstan playing the full game. I think Billings makes the ideal sub at this stage - hopefully can be a big impact player in the last quarter and a half.

And im making the point we dont line up with 7 backs. We have someone who drops off a ball up or through in and that is usually a different player most times. BM is not making a point who will considered. He thinks we have 7 backs. How you can tell that from watching games on TV is beyond me.

honestly its round one so ive got no idea who will be picked but im guessing it will be one of our youngest sides for a long time out there on Saturday so it will make for some interesting match ups ...

I agree with a lot of this.
Bruce plays ahead of Simpkin. Webster, Wright, Dunstan all demand spots on form. Any other opposition, Delaney plays, but the Dees might not have a single forward over 6'1 this week. Having said that, wouldnt be surprised to see him picked anyway (in a "we have a way we want to play, not worrying about opposition" type reason)

Templeton has been elevated, so he plays.

So:

B: Wright, Delaney, Bruce
HB: Webster, Gwilt, Dempster
C: Jones, Armitage, Newnes
HF: Riewoldt, Lee, Savage
F: Templeton, Maister, Stanley
Ruck: Hickey, Curren, Geary

Int: Ray, Dunstan, Roberton
Sub: Billings
Emerg: Ross, Saunders, Dunnell

The big problem with this team, we have no one in the middle of the ground who can use the ball.

There is a forward and defensive rotation now, and forwards and backs all rotate through the middle and bench now in a typical 3 or 4 man Rotation

Ie/
Newnes will rotate through the wing, back flank, centre square (outside) and interchange.... In a rotation with Geary, Wright and Ray

Curran will rotate through FP, HHF, Centre Square (link) and interchange... In a rotation with Sanders, Savage,....

Armitage, Dunstan, CJ.... Rotate inside

There will be 6 backs vs 4 fwds.... when pressing 3 qtr

And a structure variation at stoppages

I think you find thats how local footy works. i dont think it really happens in the AFL. Not sure how you know this from a TV set. its hard enough at the game. I had to ask how the interchanges worked to even understand it.

Reckon you will find that Fitzpatrick will play forward and he is 200cm so there may be a need for Delaney, although Fitzpatrick may beat him on the lead if it is clean all coming in.

How many of this lot are good enough to play finals football?
