No I'm not. Can't stand him. His lordship steps down at the end of season. Gilligan is seen as an outstanding internal applicant. 2 to 3 month international search for a new CEO.

Re: Demetriou to quit (Speculation at this stage)
Certainly not the most likeable person, but as far as doing the job of CEO of the AFL, I believe he's done a very good job.
Last years saga wasn't handled well, but over the last 10 years ? IMO he's done a top job.
The AFL is far and away the best run sporting business in this country.

Maybe he and GT could be co chair of our CEO position.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Would he be interested in our top job? Just for fun.

Re: Demetriou to quit (Speculation at this stage)
Demetriou has been poor.
If you look at every 'difficult' situation the AFL has faced over the past decade, almost every single one of them has been handled poorly and/or is still an unresolved problem.
The things that are straight forward, like flogging the game to TV stations for big bucks (which in this media driven day and age is no monumental achievement) have been successful.
Stadiums - fail.
Integrity of the 'competition' - fail.
Drugs in sport - fail.
Tribunal - fail.
Expanding the comp - fail.
Salary Cap - fail.
Umpiring - fail.
The game of aussie rules football is far worse than it was. But of course, him and the commission don't care about that - it's the size of the AFL 'business' that is their priority. And in that sense, he's done well. So if anyone out there barracks for a business, then I'm sure they'll think he's done well.

Stadiums are some of the best in the world and at no cost to the AFL. Pass
Interity. Poor lately but like just about every other comp in Australia.
Drugs in sport. Not good. Nearly as bad as the NRL
Tribunal. better than it was when the person in charge woke up in a bad mood the player would get more weeks and if in a good mood he would get off. People have short term memory on that one.
Expanding the comp. Something got them an extra 400 million in the last TV rights
Salary cap. Fantastic. Even occer in Australia followed it and that sport has no history of it
Umpiring As good as its ever been because of players around the ball.
The game has never been better played in some of the best stadiums in the world by the best athletes in Australia and Ireland.

I agree it's a business, but there's no reason why we can't still support a club, and hopefully that will be always be St Kilda, playing out of Melbourne.

Re: Demetriou to quit (Speculation at this stage)
I think P.66 has replied to the above, but I have to ask, what's wrong with our salary cap ? Only have to observe EPL to realize what a mess we'd be in without it, especially us, being one of the poorer clubs.Johnny Member wrote:Demetriou has been poor.

Vlads managing image
This to me means we just may see some infraction bombs sooner than later and it's best for Vlad to have home in "his terms " as opposed to after these hit and be run out of town...
No matter, it ALL occurred under his regimes incompetence and that extends to Dill McGlaughoutloud
Jimmy would be spewin ..... clearly wanted some more of fat Andy's blood...

There is no doubt AD has done a significant amount of good for the game which far out weighs --by a large margin -- any mistakes he made.

Re: Demetriou to quit (Speculation at this stage)
I truly think a fruit bat could've managed the games growth in Vlads tenure - the product is compelling and has a captive audience
Has he really "extended" the game into non AFL regions? Are the Swans stand alone yet?
Seriously, I don't agree with Grant Thomas much (he's a flog himself) but on this occasion he's right
Bring on the next Numpty!! maybe Netters!!

Why all of a sudden did it happen though? Why not earlier? And why do most people in the media say he did a great job. Please dont tell me they are scared of him or the AFL. Some of them today who said he did a great job are also his biggest critics when it needs to be.
And has there been a good CEO or as it seems with you it doesnt matter who does it?

Give him the saints job! He reckons he loves the game and a challenge. Hold him to his word! The perfect job to add to his (in his own mind) legend.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
Re: Demetriou to quit (Speculation at this stage)
Good
Although it was Anderson who did a lot of the damage, he was his little sidekick....
He really did have the goose that was laying golden eggs... The game of footy is so big that (like the epl) a moron could be in charge, and it would exponentially grow.... No matter how many issues and scandals .... The patrons still flooded in to see there club play or watched them...
Foxtel also played its part...
Ross Oakley was the father of growth... Demetriou did a Chris Scott.... Took over a Goliath and watched it dominate
He will be mainly seen as the guy who was IC when the integrity of the game was at its lowest.... SC, Draft tampering, Drugs, Betting, Racism, Gambling, Rule Changes out of control, Tribunial farces, unfair biases between clubs, hush hush, heavy handidness....
And more...

Re: Demetriou to quit (Speculation at this stage)
Correct Mart
Oakley started and did the hard yards on a National comp - those after had dream runs including Vlad
Once again Tugger relies on "but the media says he's fine a good job... must be true "
Honestly what brain dead planet fob you hail from?
Form a view or have a spell - once again, here we go, I've given my thoughts on AD and rather than counter with something that resembles a view of your own with any facts you comment on mine
You're like a sick dog that needs to be put out of its misery
