I remember a family day way back in the day and I had my photo with Spiro, Stewart Loewe and David Grant...it was an awesome day. The players were pretty accessible and approachable. Although I haven't been to a family day since then as they always seem to be on Sundays, plus been young back then it was okay, as you get older its like umm....nah. Who knows I might travel down to Seaford on Monday, but then I might not.

Yeah, Spiro was a another handy former Carlton player amongst Peter McConville, Ken Sheldon, Wow Jones and the like who joined us during the hard times of the 80s. I remember him being outstanding against Geelong at Kardinia in one of our rare wins in 1988.

Damn Bummers lucked out with Plugger being a late withdrawal from the game. He was in a goal kicking purple patch at the time. We went down by only a couple of goals. Seem to recall Damian Kitschke missing a sitter late in the last quarter which would have given us a lead.

It was very late in the last quarter, Bummers had the ball, there was a turnover, a long kick found Kitschke 40 metres out all on his own, he loped in towards the goal, had a couple of bounces Gabelich style, and kept going right in to the goalsquare to drive home the winning goal at the A F Showers pavilion end (that bl00dy name again). Unfortunately Damien was the only person in the entire ground that didn't see Bewick coming from 500 metres away faster than Usain Bolt.
Beedick closed the gap and dived full length to smother the ball at the last second.

Shades of the thing we don't talk about.

The Essendon members went into raptures, we went into disbelief/anger/disappointment.
I think they might have kicked another goal, I wouldn't know as I was still in shock.

Pretty sure you are right and it was the same game that Spiro kicked the miraculous goal - 1990 I think.

It was 1990. I just found footage of the last 10 mins of that game on youtube. Our good friend McAdam (Saintsational poster) uploaded it

Indeed reminiscent of the thing we don't like to speak from 2010, but it was in fact Grenvold, not Bewick, who ran down Kitschke in the dying minutes of the final quarter. But by Jove, that bloody Bewick used give us headaches back in the day. He always had that cheeky shiteating grin on his face
