What was it exactly that got us in trouble.... Poor recruiting?!
And the same guys defending decisions back then, now using it as an excuse... Are again defending strange decisions?!
Fancy calling me on hindsight, the guy whom gets taken to task ATT (hickey is a prime example, won't trot out the usual names) for going early... Then when it's proven in hindsight and announced by the apologists ATT have the cheek to call hindsight
What is it... I can't go early, I can't go late?? Can't have it both ways?! Maybe I should flip flop on a game by game basis like some others
Cox.... 32yo future hall of famer
Natinui ..... 22yo freak
And yes, WC have been a rabble of late
Mmm.... Not exactly...
A 23yo B grader from a pick 9..... Then traded for a pick 19
A 21yo speculative for pick 12 and some upgrades??
It would be my rule.... A line has to be drawn somewhere.... If you want a recruiting process, so knee jerk decisions are avoided you need protocols...
Pelchin has a serious protocol in place ATM wrt recruiting
Giving up a potential career (12+ years) a grader or better
For a sure thing a grader... IMO they would need to assure almost 10 years
You are the KING of Hindsight bias, also known as the "I Knew-it-all-along effect", or in some cases the "what an annoying tosser" syndrome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindsight_bias

Have you been in a bubble champ? Our situation with 4/5 years worth of draftees basically not at the club meant we needed to get creative, what we've achieved with our situation was remarkable - I wish you would stop being such a Harry hindsight and start being a little realistic with regard to the dire position that our list was in.

So let me get this right BM, you are calling Hickeys career over as he is no good?
Just getting it clear. I know you dont rate him as you usually bag his games even when he has been OK.
I reckon it may well be a fair call, and I respect you for making it. I tend to think he will be a good serviceable ruckman so I disagree with your view, however it doesn't make it wrong.
Many people here though dont like your hindsight calls especially about dp's from other clubs.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Thats because you have nfi jb...remember your attack re Howard...you don't know he will be no good etc etc etc..had nothing to do with that. Why would you take someone you rate at 26 when no other club was interested. Could have taken him at 96 and drafted one of highly rated draftees. You still don't understand do you.
How many Richmond supporters laughed at you when we took Patterson etc...they know, nothing to do with hindsight. The list of foolish drafting/trading far exceeds good clubs eg Geelong.

Whose Patterson?
I know Adam Pattison also played with HAWTHORN after he left St Kilda
Well thank you JB for allowing me an opinion... Much appreciated
And good on you for speaking for the rest of the forums opinions
If young Hickey turns out a reasonable player, it'll be good that we didn't use a top DP on an average ruckman... But then what about longer?
On Hickey
How many Ruckman in the AFL are as lightly framed as Hickey... He's like a coat hanger after 4 pre seasons? He has little contested presence at this stage!
Weller... Possibility to make it
Not a bad word for a pick 20 Rookie

Isn't Hickey's contested marking actually well above average?
There were some stats before we drafted him. Was renown for contested marking.
I wouldn't be worried about his body right now.... He seems like a genuine tap ruckman. Gets to the pill and can mark.
Plus we got one of Wright/White.
All this and the actual pick 12 is already been linked with leaving the club that drafted him.
worth remembering the first two seasons of Aaron Sandilands career ... the bloke was a monster of a player but was basically usless as his taps went no-where for a guy of his size he was bullied about and was basically little more than a really really tall guy .... given time Sandi develloped his game and those around him learnet how to best use him to the point where i still rate him as the best in the comp ... give Hickey a bit of time and i think we will all be pleased with the player we got
