On reflection perhaps the 2004 loss to Port at York Park wasn't the defining moment that led to our exit from Tasmania.
But I think the 2005 loss also to Port probably made up GTs mind.

Then of course the most corrupt contrived despicable debacle in AFL history the following year at the venue sealed the Tasmanian experiment.
That illegal and immoral act by the AFL cost us 3rd spot on the ladder.

The 'Sirengate' match was I think the first and only time that the match was over BEFORE the umpire raised both arms (contrary to all the rules of our game!). The result of the game was changed days AFTER the game itself. Totally corrupt AFL needing to get Freo 'up'.

Why don't they change the result of the 1980 Night Final (Escort Cup)? Kerry Good of North marked the ball long after the siren had sounded, then kicked a goal from the set shot! Result: North wins.

The Tassie experiment might have been good financially but the fact is it cost us top four on at least two occasions, thereby reducing our chance of having a shot at the Premiership! And Premierships are what it's all about in the long run.

We would have finished 3rd on percentage ahead of Freo. Although I don't know that we would have done any good given that we couldn't beat Melbourne.

Don't players win games of footy? Players only strong enough to succeed in the comfort of their home don't deserve success anyway. GF is not at Docklands is it?!

And I would have thought every club would rather 22 home games than 22 away games. Every club you played with must have been very strong mentally if they were as good away as at home and to think i followed a very successful Amateur side who won many flags but still played better at home than away.

True Sting. At least we got to return the complement somewhat in 1992. Skunks finished first, us sixth... we rolled them, so with no second chance (amazing ), Skunks were out... and dirty as...
That was the game in which Matthews used McGuane to tag Harves'. McGuane was run ragged. Result... McGuane's game sacrificed, Harves' another BOG. A double win for us.

Only problem..., next week we had the Poodles and a (should've been) ticket to the Preliminary Final...

I still remember... Plugger and Buckets (nowdays moderating on SS) in the spacious VFL Park forward line... howling wind behind us... we kick it short and sideways...
I still remember the Bronx cheers from our crowd when a Sainter finally kicked one long down the guts...

What were they thinking!?! That was Bomba's worst ever day in the coaches box.

While we're on the topic, we didn't finish 3rd in 91. We finished 4th.

Terrible finals system. The winner of that game went into a second semi final and had a double chance. The losers finished 5th.
