Delaney well beaten early but fought back a little but conditiond didnt favour forwards. Bruce was ok but again forwards struggled. Dunstan is a well built player but will need to get more of the ball. Looks a likelt propect.

In fact, his final record was just beaten this week - almost twenty years after he set it in 94. The guy was an amazing athlete.

Not having seen any footage it is probably daft adding into the comments/ impressions but
i did notice the positive comments reg Wright (fantastic for him) and Simpkin. I'm expecting a hard year for the team so any chance that a more solid and all rounded defence emerges will i think help stiffen the back bone of a lot of young players further up the field.

Eli snaring goals in his first outing - v. nice indeed!
Someone above pointed out that the players just getting familiar with each other on game-day will take time. Look with semi-experienced players such as Stanley yet to really get his head above water we have to accept that he may just not make it and a young pup like Eli even if he is on the rookie list could at the same-time cement his place in the coache's future plans.
This team seems a very fluid proposition.
If the defence is first to settle i'll be appreciative of that at least.
Sounds like the midfield will be real ready to have a Seb Ross or someone make big strides this year, i'm optimistic about Seb and hope he can produce a a big 2014.

GO SAINTERS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

I hope Longer gets given the main gig in the next match with Hickey supporting.

I thought they would have each gotten 50% of match time.

Thought longer looked good when he was on. Only had limited game time but done a few nice taps and created a few clearances. Can also jump and lay a tackle, something McEvoy couldn't do..

Pretty confident now that Billings will play 350 games for the Saints and will kick 700 plus goals.

Thanks Gora.

First of all... Con that is a disgrace. You will be held to account on that & deservedly so. Ridiculous.

My two cents;

If you don't appreciate anything else you must love the fighting spirit in the side. Whether the Dogs dropped off or not, sides with lesser attitudes would have been absolutely belted. A great fightback & that is what we probably need to see this year- we'll inevitably cop a few hidings but the experienced blokes need to show the youngsters that we fight it out until the end... no matter what.

*Loved Beau's game... worked his ar5e off all night & gave a contest to countless long bombs
*The class of Joey, Jack & Armo shone through. They really need Seb, Newnes, Saunders, etc to step up though. Most of the young onballers struggled in the wet & either overused the ball or were beaten to the pill.
*The Hickey/Longer combo was very promising. I thought Billy was great in the brief time he was on...threw his weight around against Minson, was aggressive, chased & got his hand to the ball. Tom got the extended game time & was pretty good as well in conditions that didnt suit.
*I liked Delaney's game after quarter time (he fumbled the ball a fair bit early but seemed to get a handle on it later). He's a big physical unit & will be a godsend for Chips, Gwilty & co this year.
*Josh Bruce was outpointed a few times by Stringer but we need to remember that he's still a baby in terms of his development as a key defender. He's not a ready made player but someone who will have a few bags kicked on him. Patience is needed but he certainly has the size & athleticism to be a quality KPD.
*TC must hate Geelong... had a shocker there last year & was only marginally better last night. Once again, he's in the infancy of his career & expectations currently on him are a bit unfair at present.
*Eli was great... crashed in, linked up & kicked those goals thanks to some smart work.
*Dunstan seemed a bit overwhelmed for the 1st half but worked into the game a little in the 2nd.
*Billings got out & had a run. Couldn't get near it but there's plenty of guns who didnt touch it in their first few games. Assessing his talent on that game, in those conditions is beyond mad.
*Rhys obviously had a shocker... needs to show some intensity when conditions don't suit him. Hopefully the track in Wagga will be dry & fast & he'll show more of the form that he presented in 2012 as a high half forward.

Anyway, we've got our first hitout out of the way with no injuries & a look at a few new faces. Looking forward to how we fare against the Giants... might be a little insight into the premature wooden spoon talk!

Your pretty spot on there IMO animal enclosure!

I also noticed that Roberton seemed to be running with a limp. Is he playing injured or has he always done that??

so let me get this right Con you are basically saying Aaron Fiora (from Naracoorte) is harder than Luke Ball (from Glen Iris) ....
and Jason Laycock (East Devonport ) is harder than Lenny Hayes (Pennant Hills) ....

What about someone who is born in the country but moves to the city as a young boy?

Or someone who is born in the city but moves to the country while still quite young?

Half soft/half hard?

Not his conditions apart from lots of ball ups. Needs to really work on marking and actually getting the ball but far to hard to tell last night.

Half soft/half hard?

Don't confuse me :-). Maybe they will be like those kinder surprise things..

And I'm saying ON AVERAGE

Of course people can pull out exceptions of the thousands of VFL/AFL players that have played.
I'm saying on a per capita basis- the county kids punch above their weight.

That's all.

Exactly and thats why what you said is rubbish. You are picking 2 players not an average.
