Just seems like the other 3 sides can all spruik memberships while we can't.

You are right about memberships, they would sell a few but lets be honest that most who would go to a practice match are still most likely to buy them anyway. The problem the saints have is that there are bugger suitable venues around where we base ourselves.
Yep - i tried to think of a venue and only really came up with Frankston Oval which probably isn't up to scratch.

I'm thinking of the membership 'feel good community factor' that the other clubs are taking an opportunity and we aren't.

No idea where else we could play - there aren't that many grounds down in our neck of the woods.

I guess maybe if they renovate Moorabin will be the obvious spot in a few years.

Maybe if we could get 20,000 to attend wearing something like this, then perhaps we could play at Moorabbin

Frankston is no good you say but Wagga is ok .... I would argue that Frankston is the better venue, but anyway the North Wagga team are known as the North Wagga Saints. They wear the same colours and have the same crest so there is some similarity.

I accept the GWS game being interstate.
But a game between two Melbourne based teams should either be
- somewhere easily accessible to their supporters
- or somewhere in their traditional heartland

Geelong doesn't fit either requirement.

I'm only going on what plugger says about Frankston Oval - I haven't been inside there for years.

Wagga still seems like a GWS home game to me - GWS would definitely be chasing regional NSW fans one would think they are the home side there.

Surely a twilight game at Frankston could be arranged? Could they even fit in a temporary stand for another 1000 peeps?

Might sound a little silly but even Sorrento would of been a better option (for our sake not bulldogs)
Not too far from Franga, would get a full house down there (where as we'll get 8k into simmonds and leave 30k seats empty)

I agree with Con. The practice games we play in are ALL home games for the OTHER teams, dogs, GWS, etc. How is this going to help us attract more members in the Melbourne or Mornington area? Yet Collingwood and some of the other 'big' Melbourne teams are able to play their prac games at Etihad. We are get a shocking financial deal from there during the real season, yet cant play ANY of our prac games there? Is this so the 'big' teams can play in Melbourne, fans can see a game live and they can attract even more members? I hope I am wrong but I dont think this is going to help our current membership problems at all!

Sorrento? The footy ground doesn't have any seats around it. A full house would be about 2000.

Ah possibly that s*** stadium we get no gate takings from where it's usually played. Oh but then we need to play them at bizarre hours on weird days because Demetriou had to justify the ridiculous amount he charges NAB for a series he thinks is a joke. He is possibly trying to run it into the ground so he can go to the AFLPA and extend the Home and Away series instead.

Playing nab crap games at Etihad is fine. The AFL collect all the revenue and pay for ground hire.

Our benefit is only merch sales from the truck or tents plus membership sign ups

This game would actually suit Doggies supporters quite well, but not us. I guess so long as they never have the Dogs playing home games down in Geelong in the regular season it won't matter.

Not 'possibly', this is 100% the case.... The most meaningless pre season comp in memory... Yet bringing in huge $$'s nonetheless... Just imagine how much TV rights would be worth with the extra 3/4 weeks of season proper footy...

So no answer at all. Its practice games over 18 days so they can have 2 byes that the players wanted. The NAB series has been a joke for years because the clubs use it exactly as it should be used, practice matches. I take it you havent got answer then.

Don't mind having the GWS game at Wagga.

- Club legend Bill Mohr was from Wagga.
- Allan Jeans was from Finley.
- Adam Schneider grew up in Wagga.
- As noted before - North Wagga are the "Saints".

Plenty of upside in the Club visiting an area loaded with Saints history.

Quicker to get from Melbourne to Wagga than Sydney to Wagga not that many if any will go from either area.

Wagga to Penrith is 3 mins shorter than Wagga to Melbourne according to google.

In any case once again p66 misses the point and wants to argue for its own sake.

This is unquestionably a GWS home game and a chance for them to spruik themselves in a region.

We missed an opportunity in this NAB challenge to do something for ourselves.

Its obvious - I'm not sure why you are arguing this.

I believe last year when the Giants played in Albury or something in a NAB Cup match they had around 7,000 to the game so they would be hoping for a similar figure in Wagga. That's not exactly nobody.

No I think you and a few others are whinging for whinging sake. My guess is plenty who follow the Wagga Saints follow the Saints because of the jumper and the name. And our club missed no opportunity to do something because like all 17 clubs there maybe no opportunity to do anything. Of course if you know there was ploease post it. Some just like to whinge. Equal distance to the game. Doubt many if any will go from true supporter base and we are playing where a side is called the Saints. Semms like we maybe the favoured side but hey im not whinging just using common sense.

What does the doc mean Wagga is a long way away? It is just up the road. Now Geelong, that IS a long way away.
