If Gold Coast were interested in Gilbert at the end of 2014.
1. Would we be interested in trading him?
2. What pick and or player would we want?

If a tree falls in a Forrest, would James Hird inject it with the sound of one hand clapping?

What I'm trying to point out is the Saints should seek a trade for Gilbert. If we could gain a pick in the mid 20's that would be a win. Providing our recruitment staff do the right thing, that gives that player 3 to 4 seasons to establish himself before we are challenging again. If we keep Gilbert, will he be still good enough by 2018 to be playing, I think not. Even if he is he will be over 30 and more injury prone than a 22 year old with 4 seasons under his belt. Now do you see what I'm getting at?????!!!!!!

Not the right time to ask this
We all know how Sam can play.
If the question is about maxxing out a player to win a flag then we should should discuss it. He is only 27.
for a top 15 pick yes. otherwise no way.

You do realise there are at least 22 games left this year. And based on your reason in getting rid of Gilbert then every play 27 and over should be traded or delisted. Pity that GC, Melbourne and GWS have realised you cannot just have young players and are now recruiting older players to help the young guys even though they are unlikely to be around when they win a flag. Under your idea then GC probably should get rid of Abblett because he is probably not going to be around for the first flag.

...yes, and then he'd get into some chemical tanning products while banging the tree's wife. Leaving the tree asymmetrically clunking it's trunk for Hird's rhythmic pleasure. Paul Little would then find a way to put Thommo in the forrest while paying Hird to do a year long study trip in to the left lower limbs of the giant sequoia of California.Sobraz wrote:If a tree falls in a Forrest, would James Hird inject it with the sound of one hand clapping?

Anyone is tradeable for the right price. I suspect Gilbo will have the best year of his career this year, which would either make him untradeable, or push his price up to at least a top 15 draft pick - and honestly, I can't see anyone giving that up in a bumper draft.

Gilbert & Gwilt for O'Meara & Prestia...
I'm hearing it's a done deal, just waiting for the paperwork to go through.

I think that the Saints are going to have a pretty good year in 2014, and will finish up within cooee of the final 8. That being the case, we will probably have a pick in the range 7 -9. So we will need to do something to improve our picks. The last two years we have good picks in the late 1st round, and 2nd and 3rd rounds. We will have to try and do something similar again this year. Maybe Gilbert will assist in this.

Gilbert has a top year in 2014 returns to, or betters 09... we shouldn't trade him as he required moving forward with more of our a/b liners moving towards the end.

Sam will definitely be on the market at the end of the year, as the coach has stated, we want to have several picks in the first round again this year.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

Well every single player is on the market but there is 22 games to go. No idea why we have a thread about him.

Watched them train recently and gilbos disposal, along with Saunders, was absolutely appalling.
They all looked pretty good until they got into competitive work and then the skills are woeful.
Seems to be the issue that continually haunts us.

Well if thats the case then we should trade him for a very good pick.
