whilst the rumour mill has been aghast at what the Saints bottom line may be- the only supposition I have seen is $1.5mill
and there is supposition on the Bombers being between $5 and 7 mill
and the Lions well over the $1mill- if not closer to $2mill
this comment is interesting...
The league has made clear it will push more aggressive equalisation measures, with as few as three or four AFL clubs making a profit when AFL distributions are taken away. -
Otherwise, the club is investigating finding more non-football revenue, such as a gaming facility, to off-set any dip in membership numbers or on-field performance. “We’ve been investing in our football department from our core football revenue, and haven’t been relying on other places like gaming,” Gale says.

Footy clubs don't need to make profit. Breaking even is good.
The AFL is aware of the Etihad stadium situation ( which doesn't affect the Lions )
More people watch TV than go to the game.
There are people all over Australia who cannot practically go to a game.
It makes sense to keep all the clubs going.
Melbourne , Brisbane, Port, Essendon, Richmond all have a much greater history of mismanagement than StKilda this century.

My assumption on the 3 clubs would be Pies, Hawks and Eagles
North have said a $1mill profit over the year But still owe $3mill.
Who cares about other clubs. we lost to much money and we need to turn it around otherwise we just keep hanging in there. We will probably have the lowest membership of any Victorian club next year. Not good enough and a worry if the AFL ever decide they wont help clubs as much. We need to be better than the other 3 bottom Vic clubs.
the AFL now charging one of it's limbs double--
take in one hand an d then have to give it back with the other....- equalisation
In 2013 clubs paid about $28,000 for behind-the-goals vision broadcast into coach's boxes and regarded by most clubs as offering an instrumental tactical viewpoint as well as providing a crucial platform for post-game reviews. The clubs have been warned that cost could next year increase to almost $60,000.

Despite the dramas with the training facility, the Cats have still been able to declare an operating profit of $148,000, which is down on last year's figure of $331,000.
even 3 X premiers can't make heaps--- although do have a nice stadium-- apparently-- as as a visiting supporter I only got to sit in one of the few open areas left...

The Bulldgos announced an operating loss of$143,000 today - not too bad given they had one of the smallest memberships and a crappy Etihad Stadium deal.

Acc. to the article, the AFL brand ranking table is:
Collingwood Magpies
West Coast Eagles
Geelong Cats
Carlton Blues
Fremantle Dockers
Essendon Bombers
Sydney Swans
Richmond Tigers
Adelaide Crows
Brisbane Lions
Port Adelaide Power
Stkilda Saints
Melbourne Demons
To me, this reinforces the age old addage "any publicity is good publicity."
All the negative publicity directed at us has created more brand exposure and awareness for us than the likes of the Western Bulldogs and the North Melbourne Kangaroos have seen in decades.
