Re: CEO update
3aw's GM Shane Healey has been mentioned as being approached by the bombers (who he supports) ... But no word re the Saints. We could do worse.
AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

Re: CEO update
Apparently we were to hire a Senior Coach & CEO in the month of November. Less than 4 hours to go, highly unlikely! Nonetheless, it's been a memorable month!

Obviously not many quality people putting their hand up
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: CEO update
Not sure why anyone would want to take it on - you're set up to fail.magnifisaint wrote:Obviously not many quality people putting their hand up
We know we need a standalone VFL side, but that costs money. We know we need to improve our player development, but that costs money. We know our recruiting has been below par, but improving it costs money. And we know other clubs are significantly more well-resourced than us in the footy department, but that costs money too.
So we need cash. There are only really three sources of income for a footy club: gate receipts (but the stadium deal is poor and we're entering an unsuccessful period), sponsorship (but we're losing games and the brand has been trashed) and AFL distributions (but it's not fun grovelling to the league for every cent). Where does the money come from?
The new CEO, if they've got any guts, should sell a couple of games to Cairns and another one to NZ, or even one to Tassie. See if they can improve the bottom line by a couple of million just through selling home games. That'll get the AFL on side because they love reaching new areas with the game. Might even give us enough political capital with HQ to improve our stadium deal!
But the fans will hate it, so the CEO needs to be tough. Maybe even publicise the parlous state of our cash flow so that fans can understand.
Re: CEO update
Bergholt, another source of funds is Membership. We really need to grow that base. Selling games won't help in that area.

Re: CEO update
I suppose I'm stating the obvious but the poor bloke has to try to balance the 2 sources of income - i.e. you can't really rely one one of them alone. But, as has been mentioned, how do you sell games out of Vic with the support and "blessing" of the members?Bazza1970 wrote:Bergholt, another source of funds is Membership. For example, you can give "compensation" entry to selected away games. However, I seem to remember that our major beef with the Butters administration when they sold home games to Tassie is that we kept LOSING THEM !!!!
Anyway, I'm glad that I don't have to come up with a solution because the CEO's position does seem to be a posion chalice.

At 750K per year to do the job, without having to guarantee success, I'm willing to drink the poison. I've got at least 3 years before people realise I'm hopelessly inadequate and under qualified, but even that didn't stop the last guy!

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Indeed, Pav, indeed. I'd love to draw up a bit of a psychological profile of the Nettlefolds. I recently read the results of a major survey of CEO's in the USA. Of the 4,000 surveyed, 75% displayed enough traits to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Not just some of the traits, but the actual disorder. Frightening.SaintPav wrote:Apparently his brother is not the only one with serious behavioural issues....White Winmar wrote:At 750K per year to do the job, without having to guarantee success, I'm willing to drink the poison. Re: CEO update
Any top CEO would be taking a major pay cut to come to the Saints.
We will either have to poach someone from another sporting org. who is on similar money to what we currently pay, get someone with lesser experience who wants to raise their profile by being with an AFL club, or get someone who doesn't care about the cash and just loves the Saints.

i'd just like to point out that Narcissistic PD has been removed as a diagnosis in the new DSM. From 2013, no longer a diagnosis.White Winmar wrote: I recently read the results of a major survey of CEO's in the USA. Though I still think it's there
