billy never wandered too far out from goal did he stinger? Played in an arc from goal about 40-45 metres, very rarely went too far out from the goals. Those goals he regularly got kicking back over his shoulders or head, weren't flukes either. At least a third of his goals I would estimate came from that skill. He was brilliant in the mud too............. slippery conditions and ball didn't take the edge off his ability.

For mine.
1. Plugger
2. Bill Young
3. Jason Heatley
4. G-Train
5. Kevin Roberts
i was going to do another one....best saints field kicks , kevin roberts was to be included there....so here goes
!. dave mcnamara
2. jimmy ross
3. kevin roberts
4. john mcintosh
5. george young

some beautiful left foot kicks there.....the pelican would love them......kevin could kick a dropkick 75 metres......
Unsure how you know McNamara was a great field kick. He may have kicked it long but im unsure place kicks would be good in an actual game. Think he may have been a better coach than a field kick.

that what he said was it.....????    ...shows what he knows....

dave was a monster of a man for those times....6' 4"....placed kicked the ball over 100 yards on several occasions....won a kicking competition against a rugby god in dally messenger....

once kicked 10 goals from 12 shots on goal....

captained the saints at 21 years of age and initially left the saints after a dispute to play with the dons in the vfa.......first ever player to kick more than 100 goals in a season from chf......kicking 18 goals in one match......again from centre half forward.......

i was right the first time dave......we all know that plugga never is....

i remember the photos on the wall at the old junction oval......marvelled at them actually.......they recorded the facts surrounding the place kick i previously referred to....

It is amazing how someone is not allowed to rate someone highly due to limited knowledge..... But could say the opposite, with the same limited knowledge?! The mind boggles? I think they believe they are a higher authority...... Which is funny given an obvious lack of understanding ..... Maybe he didn't use a place kick around the ground, but was still the best kick going around??

Oh
And the same person believes you need to watch live before a opinion can be formed? Not sure he saw Dave McNamara play??

But had to butt in with his MO of not allowing an opinion.... Of any sorts

Clear baiting. Lets see some consistancy. Probably the 5th time in a few days. Not expecting anything though.

Agree with Plugger, Heater and Geo Young. Haven't got any access to some stats but B Hall from 50 m or further didn't miss too many. Missed a few around the 30 to 40 m range.

How many behinds did he kick, or are you just relying on the fact that there are no stats of behinds kicked in those days?

If you're having a set shot nowadays, can you do it with a place kick? You do have 30 seconds to kick the ball.

What about Hi Ho Silvio?
