Top 5 Most Dangerous Saints

Seeing this is top 5 week;
Who were the most physically dangerous Saints, the unpredictable ones?
The players that made the opposition scared, and who inflicted the most hurt?

1) Eric Guy.
I never saw him play but both my Father and Grandfather told me that when he got a player, it was all over.

2) Carl Ditterich.
All elbows. Could run through a pack and not miss an opposition player. The enforcer.

3)Robbir Muir
The powder keg. Once the fuse was lit, there was no stopping him.

4) Robert Mace. Similar to Muir. I once saw him run the length of Moorabbin to punch a player trying to hide behind the umpire.

5) Cowboy Neale. More methodical than the others. But when he chose a target he rarely missed.

Russel jeffrey was also probably the best toe to toe boxer i have seen for us.
I remember gary ablett sr had a go one day amd Russel sorted him out quick smart.
Ablett started it but Russel finished it real quick.
Gazza avoided him for the rest of the day.

Agree with most of the names posted, what about Jimmy O'Dea? Didn't he end a Collingwood players' career at Moorabbin? Nothing to be proud of though as I heard it was a hit behind play.

Yabby rated as the toughest bloke he'd ever coached... Barry Lawrence.

Jeff Sarau was also a respected tough nut.

Lazar wasn't bad either.

it's easy to forget....boof head was a sniper.....a bash artist early on in his career...feared because of his reputation as a boxer...but when push came to shove he chickened out on that...


yep forgot about lawrence...he was really tough, unpredictable and an enforcer on the field......yabby coached morrow big carl and guy so i'm surprised with that comment


i don't rate guerra either...easy to take blokes out when they are not looking....i have already mentioned sarau...twice....yabby himself was a tough nut...hard as nails.....strong as an ox too.....


lazar as a hit merchant too...mainly behind play.....wow jones had a few hearing footsteps as did rex hunt.....

no to darryl griffith ..great player but not a dirty bone in his body.....he was just 6 foot and not built heavy.....a very fair player...


...i was at the junction oval the day guy shirtfronted bobby skilton .......i thought he had killed him.....like a car accident it was...at speed....i still shudder thinking about it....


cowboy used to set them up for lawrence to finish off..... they got robert walls that way...but he deserved it....

Wow Jones added a bit of colour to the cause especially as we were'nt that successful he liked to fly the flag.We also never got to see the roughouse side of Dave Grainger who only played 3 games for us but was a renowned hitman in the SANFL for Port Adelaide.

I was speaking with a former umpire recently and asked him who were the scariest players he'd umpired. He said that there were plenty of scary players but only one player he was actually scared of. Robbie Muir. No-one knew what he was going to do next. He said that Yabbie Jeans even enlisted the support of the umpiring panel in an attempt to keep him under control.

As an aside, said he was no fan of big Carl. Claimed that most of his hits were from behind.

today robbie would be protected.....no racial abuse...to reason to go off.....

i once saw robbie go beserk out at moorabbin one day...at the next break yabbie just walked past him and in doing so just tapped him on the behind...more of a well done gesture.....but hey....who really knows.....
