AFL website round one sides
Well it looks like draft pick 1 is a lock for the saints for next year if you go by the ranking points shown in the AFL round one sides.
Maybe we are also in line for a prority pick?

No chance of a priority pick - we have only been down 1 year.
But i reckon we will have another top 3 pick.

Re: AFL website round one sides
The team they picked:
B Sean Dempster, Josh Bruce, Jarryn Geary
HB Sam Fisher, Luke Delaney, Dylan Roberton
C Farren Ray, Jack Steven, Clint Jones
HF Sam Gilbert, Nick Riewoldt, Shane Savage
F Rhys Stanley, Tom Lee, Tom Curren
R Tom Hickey, David Armitage, Josh Saunders
INT Billy Longer, Lenny Hayes, Jack Newnes
SUB Seb Ross
Joey suspended. Gwilt not picked.
I think we might see a few more youngsters ahead of Ray and Jones, but who knows??

Yeah that's right, bloody "experts"
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: AFL website round one sides
Why would there be youngsters in front of Ray and Jones....
I think they finished high in the B&F in 2013?!
Why is there 3 Ruckman?.... You barely need two!
Is Adam Schnieder unavailable? If not, he's in the top ten?

Re: AFL website round one sides
I just get the feeling Richardson is going to go all out on youth this year. He'll probably want to have a look at a guy like Billings early on, same with Dunstan, when the heat is on. A game against the Dees or GWS in the first month is probably not a bad way to get a taste for it.BigMart wrote:Why would there be youngsters in front of Ray and Jones....

Not sure what we gain by having those guys play in the VFL, while Ray, Jones, probably a few others, play 15-20 games a year in the seniors.
But who knows. I still think that team is probably good enough to roll Melbourne anyway, we just have 4 months to discuss it!!!

Re: AFL website round one sides
Don't know if we'll win Round 1 though I'd hope to and expect to.
Don't know where we'll finish at the end of the year either.
However if that side listed above is the 2014 wooden spoon team, then the AFL competition is travelling pretty bloody well IMO.

Good effort there by AFL.com.au...
Obviously Schnieder as mentioned and Hayes for Saunders.

Re: AFL website round one sides
The AFL need to pump Melbourne up - maximize the crowd. Hence the more winnable games scheduled so early for them (and us and GWS to a lesser extent).

That's all well and good, but it would be good to see regular games (providing they are fit and in form) given to:
- Wright
- Webster
- Markworth
- White

Agree but also no shame earning them through the VFL.

No shame... I will go a step further and make it compulsory....

Barring injury Wright will be a lock Round 1.

Re: AFL website round one sides
Someone better tell Schnieds he is not in the best 22? Because I'm pretty sure he would think he is?! Or is this journalist a fool?
He will be handy in the VFL though...
Saw his comeback VFL game after a long lay off and not fully fit last year... He was two levels above any other player...

Its an opinion. maybe she is basing it on the fact he has only played about 15 games in the last 2 years. it might be because she thinks he just wont get fit enough. I would hope most players think they are in the best 22 even if we dont.

Melbourne will finish rock bottom next year. Paul Roos be the next Malcolm Blight-type "messiah".
Whoops! I'd better keep a lid on that one. P66 might have a go at me for that.

Re: AFL website round one sides
i would say that the preseason - NAB cup games - what ever paractice matches leading up to round 1 would be a good enough ground to say if a player first year or 15th year is deserving of the call up in round 1 ...BigMart wrote:No shame... I will go a step further and make it compulsory....

Re: AFL website round one sides
That forward line is too top heavy with Roo, Lee, Stanley and Gilbert plus Longer on the bench. I'd be picking another crumbling small forward (if we have one) instead of Stanley.
Likewise in defense with Bruce, Delaney, Fisher and Dempster. Again I'd want to omit one of those talls and add some rebounding run with somebody like Newnes or Wright.
