I don't understand why ASADA/WADA don't just hand out the penalties themselves… would be simpler than this too and fro method

Think speeding fines, parking fines, you name it.
We all want others to get what we get. Fair enough too

The horse racing incident has nothing to with with ASADA so not relevant. And im pretty sure they didnt name the drug either.

Ropable yeh , but most people would only use that to try to reduce their own sentence . Not drag someone else down as well just because they got f#@ked over. If your car got keyed would you wish the same for your neighbours?

Those arnt comparable scenarios. And indeed good luck to them. They are chance events.
From what I've read this bloke hasn't had a whinge of all the players that hadn't been caught.
The comparable scenario would be both getting fines for very similar or the same driving offences but one getting a $50 fine and the other a $400 fine for practically the same thing.

He probably is trying to reduce / review his situation as a result.
Keying isn't the same the same thing. You'd want a process to be consistent which is fair. Not comparable to chance events and wishing bad on others.
Anyway - from my take ASADA stepped in with the two years, which hasn't happened yet for Saad.

Re: Bitter No-name VFLer wants Saad dragged to his level
I stand to be corrected but i still say the cases are different.
Saad took a substance banned in comp only.
Clark took a substance banned both in and out of comp.
So not apples and apples.
As i said I stand to be corrected but I think this is the case.

I tthink it has more to do with the AFL being smart enough to give close to the maximum and the VFL not even giving 50% of the maximum and that is why I dont think ASADA will appeal. If an Olympic athlete had cocaine on match day with a resonable excuse they would probably get 2 years and that is only banned on match day.

Agree with that
Vfl was taking the piss with only 9 months so asada had to intervene.
18 months for this offence seems to make sense.
Positive test but not at the bad end of the scale.
So should satisfy asada.

And in that respect, he probably would have struggled as a VFL player to find the coin to fund an appeal.Con Gorozidis wrote:Well I don't believe footy would have been Matthew Clarke's main source of income.noddy wrote:In fairness though, cheating at AFL level is probably also quite a bit worse than cheating at VFL level since the stakes are so much higher.Con Gorozidis wrote:18 month ban from AFL is way worse than 24 month from VFL.
Killing your livelihood as a top grade pro v postponing a hobby
I wouldn't exactly call playing in the VFL a hobby though either.

Re: Bitter No-name VFLer wants Saad dragged to his level
Everyone should be treated equal in the eyes of the law. This boy took an energy drink the same as saad did. But its a worse case than saads in that he didnt buy the drink. The drink was supplied to him after he left his at home the morning of his game by a team mate who assured him it was ok. He told his mate that he was to be tested after the game and then asked other players and coaching staff if it was ok to use. All told him it was fine. Its a very sad case as his mum loved watching him play and took up the fight to reduce his ban but to no avail. She never saw him play again as she passed away a few months ago from cancer. I dont blame the boy even if he is bitter but i think all he wants is to be treated fairly.
