Re: Teams
If Jones & Ray play ahead of Markworth, Billings, Dunstan etc… I'll spew.
Siposs is miles away from our best 22 - around 30th ATM…
Longer will edge Hickey out of the side I reckon

I'm with you, drag it. Longer will overtake Hickey very quickly.

No he won't. We're building a team for the future and Hickey is a key to that future.White Winmar wrote:I'm with you, drag it. Longer will overtake Hickey very quickly.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell
Re: Teams
Get ready to spew then....
Jones and Ray finished top ten in the B&F last year and have played 300 games between them.
Siposs is the best of the 5 medium fwds, but will need to perform to stay in...
Curran plays fwd and rotates through the midfield with Joey and Jack... He even does this at Sandy
Every team in the AFL has seven defenders... It a standard set up

Not every team has 7 defenders these days. matter of fact nearly all now start with the standard 6. 3 years ago there may have been 7 in the backline. What they do now though is drop one back when they lose control of the ball or at ball ups but hardly any side would set up with 7 defenders. basically impossible to tell that from watching TV unless you get a different picture to everyone else. Get to games. You will then see you are wrong. As for Ray and Jones finishing top 10 this year. i dont get what that has to do with next year or even the amount games they have played. it would be better long term for the club if they werent playing many games next year. it means players have hopefully gone past them.

Re: Teams
Siposs is in the 35 - 40th range on our list at the moment… heading for de-listing… certainly nowhere near the best 22.
Hope he becomes a star, by the way, but things have to change dramatically.

Re: Teams
And it was only a year ago he was the next big thing.... How quickly things change?
Short memories, I reckon...
Arryn is ahead of
Murdoch, Markworth, Acres, Billings, Dunnell, TDL as a medium forward... Just a better player if fit
Is around the same mark as Milera... But would choose him for his overhead....
He does need to prove his aerobic fitness, and second effort ability... But talent and development wise, he is first up....
The challenges will come from all those I mentioned, but none of those are proven
Laughable to think Ray
28yo and 176 AFL games wouldn't make our 22
And Jones will be a walk up after 2013.... If he is not a senior player, why is he on the list?

Re: Teams
I believe Ray has consistently been in our top 15 since arriving at our club, I don't expect that to change. Much undervalued IMO. Cannot understand the angst against him. Has as much courage as anyone on our list, a gut runner & his disposal is much improved from when he was a Bulldog.
Re: Teams
I dunno. Have a look at the grand final teams. Back sixes as named:BigMart wrote:Every team in the AFL has seven defenders... It a standard set up
Lake, Gibson, Stratton, Birchall, Burgoyne, Hill (and Guerra on bench)
Dawson, McPharlin, Johnson, Duffield, Spurr, Pearce (and Suban on bench)
Burgoyne, Pearce, Hill - are they defenders? They're more attacking than anyone on the list of seven backs you gave for St Kilda. Guerra, Birchall, Spurr, Duffield - plenty of good disposal and attacking options there. I'm not sure they'd agree that there are "seven defenders" in their standard setup.

Re: Teams
Given we'll probably have a few more decent draft picks next year and there will apparently be key forwards to choose from, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Siposs got the chop at the end of the season. He really needs to make some sort of impact. Being a nice kick isn't enough. Having said that, I hope he has a good one and establishes himself in the team.
Re: Teams
Every team has
In the set up
What is called a 'plus 1'
It's an extra man behind the contest line.... Not necessarily a defender.... And generally a player the coach wants free behind the ball
With stk, it would be either Sam F or Sam G.... The 'extra' can be a kick, 5m, or at the contest on the defensive side... Either way they are in a defensive role, until possession is won.
It's pretty standard as a structure
As is a 'link' a 'target' and a 'hit up'
The structures and GPs are pretty standard set ups....

I can safely say that it wasn't me calling Siposs the new BJ - that was absurd.BigMart wrote:And it was only a year ago he was the next big thing.... How quickly things change?

I think Lee plays like a medium forward… probably Maister too, they would both be ahead of Siposs.
Arryn is on par with Milera & Murdoch at the moment. Savage will be more damaging.
Markworth & Billings will fly past him next year unless he lifts considerably.
He was very underwhelming this year IMO.

Re: Teams
Agreed - some of those in between sized players will be under the microscope. Sipposs, Simpkin, Gwilt, Master. Plus smalls TDL , Milera , Minch, Shenton. I know it sound cruel but Markworth could be unlucky if he has a poor season or gets injured again.Winmar wrote:Given we'll probably have a few more decent draft picks next year and there will apparently be key forwards to choose from, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Siposs got the chop at the end of the season. I hope Markworth and Minch have great seasons.

I think Longer will be in front of him next year for the #1 ruck spot… he's a natural footballer, top 10 draft pick & has played a lot more than Hickey.
Hickey may eventually become #1, but next year I think Longer will be in front.

Where did I say Hickey is no good? I've been pumping him up since we got him. I just think Longer is better. I look forward to both of them developing. If they both reach their full potential, we're in for some exciting times. I had the privilege of watching Longer a fair bit at U/18 level. That's why I'm excited about him. An absolute steal for pick 25.Gurgman wrote:So you think Hickey is no good , we will see expertDevilhead wrote:I wouldnt be so sureWhite Winmar wrote:I'm with you, drag it. A bit of advice, Gurgman. If you're going to be an aggressive knob in your posting, it might help if you could write properly. A question mark at the end of question and a full stop at the end of a sentence. Those really should've been two separate sentences.
