Pre Season Draft Pick 3
The Saints will use National Draft picks 3, 18 & 19 to recruit three more senior players and then pick 83 to upgrade Tom Curren.
That creates a full senior list.
St Kilda could have pick 3 in the Pre Season draft but would have to delist a senior player to activate this pick.
Who would St Kilda delist?
Who would St Kilda take with pre season pick 3?
Once the Pre Season draft is over, the rookie draft takes place, so the Pre Season draft gives the club a pick ahead of the rookie draft and still providing for an early pick in the rookie draft.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
The pre-season draft has a lot less impact now with free agency in place…
Any player de-listed this year can now be picked up without having to go through the draft, which is the case for 2 players we have been looking at in Weller and Jolly.
I can't see us using the PSD at this stage.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
If there is someone rated 20-30 in the draft by the recruiters that slips through, then that would be a god opportunity to take two early "rookie selections".
Use the rookie list to re-draft the delisted player, potentially the least attractive to another club.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
Are we allowed to delist and re-rookie TDL because he would be a fair way down the list at the moment.
The other player I think may well get dropped back to the rookie list is Siposs as he looks a long way off the senior squad as it stands.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
what would be the point in re rookieing him ? if he is not good enough to be in the team no point giving him a rookie spot ... much rather we pick a unknow qty than holding onto TDL for the sake of holding onto himSinCitySainter wrote:Are we allowed to delist and re-rookie TDL because he would be a fair way down the list at the moment.

Dont want Bontempelli. Far to hot and cold which may improve but it may not.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
I agree but he is still under contract so we either have to pay him out or re-rookie him? I was just questioning whether we could do that seeing as we traded for him rather than drafting him.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:what would be the point in re rookieing him ? if he is not good enough to be in the team no point giving him a rookie spot ... much rather we pick a unknow qty than holding onto TDL for the sake of holding onto himSinCitySainter wrote:Are we allowed to delist and re-rookie TDL because he would be a fair way down the list at the moment.

I don't believe he has a future with the saints and would be surprised if he plays many if any games this year. I hope he proves me wrong but doubt he will.
I would rather we paid him out and try Mav Weller or an unknown but I think if that was going to happen it would have by now.

Weller is the most likely at this stage.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
Is that possible to delist-then-rookie TDL to free up as PSD slot for Weller?
If so, I'd go for that in a heartbeat.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
If we want Weller for the main list we won't need to use the PSD... We can just sign him up as a de-listed free agent.
The PSD is largely redundant.

We will, however, need to delist someone to make room for him on the list. TDL & Dunell the prime candidates I would imagine.

Re: Pre Season Draft Pick 3
If we keep both of our rookies - Shaggy/Minch and rookie Saad we will only have one rookie spot left for Weller/Peterson. I think at least one more may be delisted, either rookie or main list or both.True Blue Sainter wrote:True.dragit wrote:If we want Weller for the main list we won't need to use the PSD... TDL and Saad need to be cut.
TDL is a fair dinkum list clogger
Saad unfortunately turns into one as well, after the expected drug suspension.

He won Vic Metro's MVP and Dalrymple said he beat a handful of players to the No. 60 pick, including ex-Gold Coast Sun Mav Weller, who is training with St Kilda.

If we don't pick Weller as a rookie Bulldogs might.
