Snare a couple of big names for 2015?

Post: # 1419630Post Sainternist »

Just thinking back to when the last time was that we got three top 20 picks in the draft. It was the one before the 2001 season. We also recruited a couple of big names in Gehrig and Hammil.

By the end of the 2014 season, Lenny will be saying his farewells. I am expecting a few more old names to depart, or at least announce that they will only play on for another season. Quite similar to when the likes of old leaders in Loewe and Burke were on their way out. It'll be around then that I'm expecting the club to pounce on getting at least one or two big name and out of contract players.

Anyone know of some big names who'll most likely be free agents come end of next year?

We may be in for another lean year, but I reckon things could really start progressing. The rebuild is well and truly in full swing now. Fingers crossed that Alan Richardson is the right man to navigate our players on the field and the board will have its s*** together.

Sure, but I'm talking about already established and/or star AFL players.

I would imagine that could be completely wrong already. For a start we have signed Joey and Rooy and I reckon other clubs would have as well. Anyway next year is at least one year to early for us to get a FA. It has to be when we have reached the bottom and show some signs we are heading upwards.

Yes, we should be in the position to snare a big name player in 2015/16 but hopefully it would be a trade, not FA. There would not be a FA that would suit our age bracket as they would have to be at least 26 to be a FA. We would want to somehow snare a big name player in a trade. Maybe someone who wants to return to VIC or a player that we can offer a better contract to then any other team.

We should only get a FA for a short term fix.
