Any whispers on the search for a new CEO?
I've heard the Harley talk, but there's nothing concrete.
Now that we have a coach, I assume attention will turn to Nettlefolds replacement.

So to the resident whisper experts, Jaxons, Tony74, Plugger, Finey, Nostradamus..... Any news?

There were whispers that there would be an appointment by the end of the month, but all has gone quiet on that front lately for obvious reasons !!

I've heard the AFL's preferred candidate is Jack Rush QC but he says he doesn't have the time to commit to the job.
Others the club have considered are Danni Roche. I am sort of warming to this idea from the point of view it would help with a culture change and public perception of that also.
It could also make us a much more attractive prospect for a major sponsor.
She was a gold medalist in our hockey team in 1996 in Atlanta. Not sure of her business acumen ?

We haven't had a really good CEO since Brian Waldron left. Some have done good things, but we need an outstanding, 5+ year appointment.

Ron Gauci is in the frame and would be an amazing appointment, but Essendon have offered him the earth and then some, so it's unlikely.

Brian Waldron, are you serious?? Jim Watts has been the last good CEO by a country mile.

Waldron was terrific. Did a lot of the heavy lifting under Butters to turn the club around. Should have been long-term for us except for something unfortunate.

Watts also did a great job but failed to manage the Butterss-Thomas relationship and the ensuing fall out. He also resigned rather abruptly when the club desperately needed someone to stay in that role long-term.

Interestingly his son Fergus is probably worth at least $10m and runs his own enormously successful business … would make a great footy CEO when he is a bit older

It's a full time paid position, so if the AFL think that Jack Rush will drop his (highly lucrative) practice for the position, they have no clue.
