Re: Ahmed delisted
Unfortunate, but had to happen.
Feel sorry for Saad - even though what he did was pretty foolish.
He didn't have a great 2013 but thought he would learn a lot and bounce back in 2014 - but that won't happen now.
It might be the end of his AFL career.
Good luck Ahmed.
GO SAINTS!!!

A lose, lose all around and will have a big impact on him personally. Sorry to see this happen.

Re: Ahmed delisted
Saad is stupid, inadvertently takes something he shouldn't have and gets severely punished because of it.
Essendon are cynical, deliberately cheating, shrouding the whole sordid exercise in a cloak of deniability hoping that so long as no-one actually records what the players were given they could all play innocent blaming everybody else for what was going on.
The Essendon players look like they may well get off scott free even though their captain admitted taking banned substances on television.
Something not quite right here is there.
Saad is being delisted so should the whole of the Essendon club.

Re: Ahmed delisted
Sad for Saad.
The club has said they can still rookie him.
They would not have said that unless they were genuinely considering doing just that.
But first he would have to nominate for both the National and Rookie drafts.
Other clubs are not going to take him in the National draft.
He may be St Kilda's finally rookie selection if no other club moves to pick him up.
I am angry that the Super Cheats of Essendon have escaped with a tickle from a feather.
James Hird should have been banned from ever entering a footy ground, anywhere, for the rest of his life.

Re: Ahmed delisted
2 year ban would not seem him rookied this year, as they would not want to tie up a spot for 2 years.
Also are you sure we can rookie him, as I thought any player banned could not be involved with a club in any way accept drug rehab type programs.

not quite true..said he BELIEVED he took that substance.....whewther he actually took it or if it was in fact banned are different matters.....
...my understanding is that he took part in a clinical trial of that particular peptide....some were given the drug..others were not......so he actually doesn't know...but they were all told that they were in a trial....

Re: Ahmed delisted
The club has activated pick 95 which will be used to upgrade Tom Curren from the Rookie List to the Senior List.
It leaves the club with picks 3, 18 and 19 activated for the National Draft.
It surprises me that they have not delisted one more player thus activating pick no 3 in the Pre Season draft.
The Pre Season draft allows the club to pick up an uncontrated disgruntled player from another club without giving up any National draft picks.
Alternately it gives the club effectively a priority pick ahead of the rookie draft but with the player going to the senior list on minmum pay instead.
If every single one of the players left on the senior list are considered too good to lose, then we should be premiership contenders not wooden spoon contenders in 2014.

Re: Ahmed delisted
Sad for Saad, bur football is a business.
Despite what people here say about him, Ahmed is a quality individual, not stupid, he just made a mistake.
There is probably only one poster on here that hasn't made a mistake by the time they reached the same age as him, or thinks they haven't.
I hope to see him back in the red, white and black at some time.

Re: Ahmed delisted
I feel bad for him.
It seems that ASADA is ruthless with lesser known sportsmen but lenient with bigger named ones.
Hopefully he can come back from this. At least we know he wont turn to the booze - so every chance he can keep up his fitness and spirits.
Hope we rookie him. I'm still a bit perplexed how his form dropped off this year. Shocking year. Can come back though.

Re: Ahmed delisted
Had a shocker in 2013. Just did not compete at all and was looking for the easy goals the entire season and waiting for the ball to spill out to him.
Best case scenario is he gets 6-12 month suspension. We rookie him. He comes back hungry.

s*** luck, stupid mistake by a seemingly intelligent guy.
Definitely deserves a ban, hopefully we'll get some leniency through his ignorance.

Re: Ahmed delisted
" Saad, 24, took the energy drink "Before Battle" from supplements company Viking Protein, which contains WADA-banned stimulant Methylsynephrine. Saad has few grounds to avoid the full two-year ban because he had attended AFL anti-drug seminars, admits taking the substance, and used it to enhance his performance by taking it on match day. The view of ASADA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport is that if you take a substance on match day with a performance-enhancing benefit, you get a two-year ban."Armoooo wrote:s*** luck, stupid mistake by a seemingly intelligent guy.

Can't see where he was unlucky or made a stupid mistake unless he drank it thinking it was cordial.

Cannot understand the club talking about rookying him. If he does get outed, he is not allowed to have anything to do with the club, and thagt would include being on the rookie list.

Re: Ahmed delisted
I also wondered about what I considered to be calculated and sneaky wording in that confession.stinger wrote:not quite true..said he BELIEVED he took that substance.....whether he actually took it or if it was in fact banned are different matters.....SinCitySainter wrote:The Essendon players look like they may well get off scott free even though their captain admitted taking banned substances on television.
Interesting Sting. I'd only ever heard of the 'trial' angle being that Dank was conducting a 'trial' as part of his efforts to get WD40 up as a muscle stimulant, after it failed as a fat buster... however he didn't tell the players that part...?stinger wrote:...my understanding is that he took part in a clinical trial of that particular peptide....some were given the drug..others were not......so he actually doesn't know...but they were all told that they were in a trial....
So..., if what you've written is correct, then surely they are gone!?! That's an admission that at least half of the then team took a banned substance (or three). No?
Therefore, would not that be sufficient to ban all of them, even if ASASDA don't know the exact names?
If not sufficient, then it would surely be sufficient to ban the club...?

Best case scenario is that he plays for Sandringham for the next 12 months, guns it, and we re-draft him.
