Maybe that was just a misunderstanding - maybe (as is normally the case with leaked information and whispers) part of the message is true - that part about "they were in the process of agreeing terms". Maybe the identity of the candiate has actually been assumed?? People tend to do this when sharing information, they fill in the gaps themselves and don't differentiate the facts from their own "gap filling" additions.
