As far as I know, there are none, Sting.

Fingers crossed that if the one of the two in question are chosen to lead us, they will be the first.

My main concern from afar with Richardson is he ran second to Watters last time so either:
a) he has improved significantly in the past 2 years
or
b) the selection panel time were morons.

Hope I am wrong as I would prefer Choco but think Richardson wouldn't have come in unless it was his.

Mick McGuane was an outstanding assistant coach (midfield).

Seems like they all have mental scars and feel some need to prove themselves with a tough guy act.
AR might be an awesome Asst. Being the the top dog is very different and can bring out the worst in people if they aren't cut out for it.
To be fair Con AR never coached at Collingwood, he was development manager in 2006/07. Also when Malthouse joined Carlton last year he didn't hang around. I am quite comfortable in his appointment, like Hinkley he has done a fair apprenticeship and would suit our very young list.
I don't think there was a great love between MM and Richardson as he was only at Collingwood for a couple of years as development manager and was one of the first guys Malthouse flicked when he got to Carlton. If you Wiki him you'll find he'd already been to a few clubs, East Burwood, Coburg,Western Bulldogs,Collingwood,Essendon,Carlton before ending up at Port Adelaide.I don't believe Malthouse made any impact with Richardson's coaching philosophies. I actually spent some time with Richardson a few years back during a coaching seminar and found him to be a very astute footballing brain. In a short period i had actually learn't a lot more and also found him willing to talk to you at the same level. He has played an important part in Port's resurgence in such a short time frame with quite a young list.

Yeah, and that really worked well for them, didn't it...
Yep, absolutely...

Primus gets zero credit for it, some of the kids he helped them secure, set them up beautifully
Give him credit for coaching them to the bottom? So Watters deserves a pat on the back once we secure Billings, Scharenberg or whoever we get at 3, 18, 19, if they are successful...

You're drawing a very long bow to suit your agenda...

Great Scott! You are right. There was one. Well remembered, but we're hard pressed when it comes down to only one and it's an assistant coach in 140 years of the club's history.

I guess one way of seeing Richardson as being potentially a good omen - if he indeed is appointed coach - is that he also played in their 1990 premiership side with McGuane.

Actually he didn't play in the 1990 flag, he was injured

No I'm not...

Primus had no choice, given the state his predecessor left the list...sound familiar?

I thought he wasn't all that highly rated when at the Saints, probably always at the TAB in the pre mobile betting era, he should have been at Jenny Craig.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Incorrect BigMart! He quit at the end of 2006 when Grant Thomas was given the noodlechop.

And who picked him up?

Mick coached Burnie in 2000/2001... He had many good attributes, many poor ones!

He wasn't a career coach and wasn't looking to be picked up! One of the reasons why I respect the guy. The midfield played extremely well under him.

I don't remember him doing all that well. Not having a dig, just wondering what you remember?

Mate, I still have no freakin' idea what that signature of yours is all about. Not to mention the pic of an inebriated looking Eddie as your avatar.
