Austin Jones worthy of short list
But Aussie says he’s committed to his current position. -Expected to coach the Bendigo Gold in 2014.
I read his comments about the Saints in the Bendigo Advetiser with interest. He’s worried about us. He thinks we’re stuck in reverse! (nah… we’re just crunching between gears Aus)

Imo he would be a terrific coach and a wonderful choice for us.
You know he's a Sainter through and through and he’s got a shrewd football brain. That's what we need.
But...can the Saints risk another untried coach?
If it were Austin Jones to coach us I believe it would be worth the risk.
Anyone care to comment on the potential appointment of Austin Jones as senior coach of the St.kilda FC?

Re: Austin Jones worthy of short list
Always had a lot of time for Aussie, seems to have a very good footy brain and was a wonderful player, one of my favorites..
However he never really seemed 100% fully committed, and to be a senior coach at AFL level, you need animal commitment, day in day out.... He likes a beer too much with the boys, which is not a criticism, just my perception of his personality...
Assistant, absolutely...

It would be great to have all our old favorites at the club in some capacity but we need to be mindful that we need to get the best possible group of people rather some of our old favorites. I love Aussie but is he the right fit for the club at this very moment, maybe not.We are a loyal lot and in the perfect world it would be fantastic but we live in the real world.

Lets get Joel Smih back too
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I don't want a "St Kilda person", I just want the best person.
agree
Aussie is learning and being in Bendigo the ' other side of coaching' other than the day to day and game day is vital-- so he is learning bUt has only been at it for 12 months..
some have quoted Hinkley experience etc- 24 years an assistant--- learning all sides or the position.

Walked out? To where, Stinger? He retired, then coached locally for several years, got to watch plenty of AFL as a special comments man for ABC radio (and did it well) and is now coaching in the BFL.
He is ripe to coach, but needs to be an assistant first. GT was bagged mercilessly by the Caro & Friends media as "never having coache" (at AFL level, anyway) but they never, ever dared to mention the 4 flags he won down at Warrnambool.

When Aussie was coaching Narre Warren, he liked to do his own special weight training program, pot curls at the bar.

Yes, but we won't dwell on that aspect of his character.slider wrote:When Aussie was coaching Narre Warren, he liked to do his own special weight training program, pot curls at the bar.
There is a tape going around of him giving a spray to his players after an unexpected Narre loss.
Suffice to say those rooms needed a repaint afterwards. Very funny, unless you were on the receiving end. If the players were put out by a Watters spray, they definitely wouldn't stand for an Aussie one.
Australia...... Live it like we stole it....... Because we did.

I don't recall the club failing to do Judas any favours Sting(?)stinger wrote:have to think about that one...he did walk out on us..but then, the club didn't do him any favours either....magnifisaint wrote:Lets get Joel Smih back too
He was a promising young kid, but certainly not an as yet proven AFL footballer, when he sadly did his knee at the 'G against the Skunks in 1997.
The club stuck by him all season and offered him $70K to rehab for 12 months and then resume playing in 1999. Whether he was on a list or not he'd still have to rehab anyway, so effectively $70K to a just starting player in 1998... to do nothing more than he'd have to do on civvie street...
The Dawks pinched him by offering silly money given his unproven status. IMHO Joel Smith's form with the Dawks was for the most part poor.
So I'm no Joel Smith fan.
(That was a fun day otherwise. Skunk member friends invited me along... the fools.
We sat in their member's section, and I was hanging it on Pebble's Rocca all arvo'. They didn't like it, but what could they do...? His 'play like Jane' efforts just confirmed my claims, they knew it too..., and... we won! Never got invited back though.
Mission accomplished. )

Aussie is a nice guy and all that.
But Bendigo aren't exactly a success story (yet).
His style is the opposite to McPhee.
I listened in to address at Sandy.
Plenty of fire and brimstone and plenty of expletives.
Result - Sandy belted them.
