Byron, I'm truly sorry to hear about your health issues.st.byron wrote:Not in our lifetime. In the same boat as Princes Park, Windy Hill and Victoria Park.Dave McNamara wrote:

Not sure we are in the same boat as the clubs you mentioned though?
Bumblers and Skunks could never return to a suburban holes coz their crowds are now too large. (Though when most of the team are banned, and Effndope have to field a mob cobbled together from the suburban leagues... )
Carlscum are (I'm pretty sure) looking at returning to playing some games at Poo Park.
Gabba', Adelaide Oval, Carrara, Woganville, Lonny, Hobart, WACA, Subi (especially originally), Manuka, Darwin... all have or still do host AFL games despite having a smaller capacity than Moorabbin in it's mighty heyday.
It won't (and doesn't need to) happen straight away, but in our lifetimes the great Moorabbin shrine needs to be restored. I'm confident it will happen. I get the impression that it's on our BOM's to-do list also.
Bring back the Animal Enclosure!!!

However, I do know that one Greens supporter was, and still is, really really pissed-off that we failed to stare down those nutters. IMHO that was far and away the greatest mistake in the history of our club!
Councillors come and go. The St Kilda FC is forever!!! Never for get that!
How many of those councillors are still on council today?
Where is our social club (and the in-question pokies) situated today?
Where are the grandstands that gave us the best suburban ground in the competition, today?
Where are the grandstands, that building them ended up putting us into debt, a debt that sent us from finally being the power club we should always have been, to nearly two decades as cellar-dwellers..., to almost out of existence?
Answer... the social club would be on the corner of Linton Street and South Road, and the grandstands would still be standing, and we still have our suburban fortress to play some home games from.
All our pain would have been rewarded!
Absolute disaster, tragedy..., and sacrilege. Nothing to do with greenies... there were none of them on our board that was being conned by Archie Fraser.
However..., we still have the lease. It doesn't have to happen overnight, but we must, and I'm confident that eventually we will... return to playing games at Moorabbin!
of course it was the greenies...stop being in denial .....

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
Lets get this straight
We spend a million upgrading the surface of Moorabbin in 2006 only to move?
We spend 6 Million at Seaford, and are on the move again?
Or are we going to have two bases? One of the poorest clubs in the AFL with two home facilities?

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
I think the idea Bigmart is to OWN the supporter base along the bayside area, much the way Geelong do...
There is a proposal of a "bayside Cup" to be played between the two teams, wether or not that comes to fruition is another story.
But your right, spend a mill and have one of the best surfaces of all AFL clubs.... then move... Crazy

Well behind those grounds. I think that dream is over, but if proven wrong will be happy to buy a beer at our first game back there...and drink it too!st.byron wrote:Not in our lifetime. In the same boat as Princes Park, Windy Hill and Victoria Park.Dave McNamara wrote:

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
I reckon it's more about getting the pokies venue down to the South Rd corner where it should/will prosper !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
just saw some plans, as they are in the process of framing up 6-8 new office spaces in the old heritage museum, in front of the existing SFL offices. Rumours earlier that they will bring some sections of admin back to Moorabbin, cause they have run out of room at Seaford. Isn't it all open and vacant land there? how do you run out of space, or is it more of a matter of town planning not letting them expand?
Anyway they show a terraced standing room area, all the way around the ground. Looks like major works being planned.

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
The club needs a venue for it's stand alone VFL team, that'll be one reason why Moorabbin is being upgraded.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
I hope they dont consider moving the animal enclosure, being able to return " home" would be something very, very special!
It would fair bring a tear to my eye if we got to play a seniors game again and stand and cheer on the hallowed ground.
It should be classified by the national trust.
We could invite Sheedy to re open it!

Hearing an announcement re funding for the Moorabbin Oval redevelopment is getting closer. Will make it the hub of football in the south.
