Re: A Good Trade Period
We presently have only 2 National Draft picks activated.
That means 1 player must be cut to accommodate National Draft pick No 19.
Another player will need to be cut to accommodate Pre Season Draft pick No 3.
Then if any permanent rookie upgrades are to be made additional cuts are necessary.

We won't have many spots on our list unless we do some culling.

This has been the first genuinely successful trade period for us in a long time. It's a bit rough saying goodbye to McEvoy and Dal, but we're going to be a much stronger team in 4-5 years time thanks to the moves made over the past three weeks

We definitely need to get Curren on our list so there will be at least two further delistings.ace wrote:We presently have only 2 National Draft picks activated.

Still think last year was ok when you consider the total number of players gained.mad saint guy wrote:This has been the first genuinely successful trade period for us in a long time. Re: A Good Trade Period
Great effort by Pelchen and Co.
I would still have preferred a young mid rather than Longer (as my preference is you grab a good ruckman once you are in the Premiership Window, as opposed to highly rated kids who have 5 years to go and may never make it - plus a lot of good ruckman come from lowly or rookie backgrounds anyway). however there are big raps on Longer.
However leaving that aside we have gained 2 more picks inside the top 20 where there is still some real quality young picks, plus with Savage, Longer, Bruce and Delaney have made our list a lot better balanced overall.
One has to commend Pelchen on his ability to do very good deals, and to clear have a solid long term recruiting strategy, rather than the overly simplistic "best available" that some favour. Instead we have a good mix of targeting and recruiting for needs, and can then go best available with 3 well positioned picks.

Re: A Good Trade Period
Im pretty impressed.
He said we would be 'aggressive'
He said there would be two bombshells
He said we would target 3 top 20 picks.
Everything came true. Well done. I dont think trade time is easy on anyone.
Now we need Tony Elshaugh to shine with his 3 picks!
CMON!

Re: A Good Trade Period
I think we have to look at the trade period as 9 weeks over three years.saintsRrising wrote:Still think last year was ok when you consider the total number of players gained.mad saint guy wrote:This has been the first genuinely successful trade period for us in a long time. Then it looks like
Hickey
Wright
White
Lee
Bruce
Delany
Longer
Savage
+ high draft picks 2013/14
+ big free agent signing 2015
Any doubts over Pelchans ability to attract talent and manage a list should be squashed......let jump on board this juggernaut train.
(I refuse to add TDL to list due to his inability yo play AFL football properly)

Oops miscount, but it is OK, the team score is not reduced to zero.
We have one less player.
We presently have all 3 National Draft picks 3, 18 & 19 activated.

Possibly Ahmed Saad being dropped and then added to the rookie list while he serves his time.

Well Curran has to be ungraded so we need to delist one player or make them a rookie. Saad will be delisted i would think.
Re: A Good Trade Period
A very impressive performance by the Pelican and co. Bold, intelligent, strategic: words I have rarely associated with our management in the past.
I was initially upset to lose Dal - one of my all time favourite Saints - but, viewing the entirety of the trading shows the move was perfect for the club and he won't be taking up game time from Seb Ross, Nate Wright or Billy Hartung (I watched the video and was immediately taken by him: looks like Jason Gram at his peak, except he can actually hit a target! I hope we can we get him at pick 19...).
For once we will be reading about St Kilda as the winners in the trade period after the Ball and Lovett debacles in recent years. Though, as an aside, I think Collingwood slightly shaded us by snaring Adams, 6 and 10, setting themselves up to be top 4 for the next 5 years in the process.
Now we just need to nail these picks. No Brad Howard smokies please. Happy to be conservative and pick the consensus best at each point, so ignore my musings on Billy Hartung above.

Re: A Good Trade Period
Curren has been signed for 1 or 2 years so they will have to find him a spot on the list.
I've lost track on who has been culled and who has been recruited and how many more spots we need on the list to make
all the planned changes. Can anyone give us a summary of the post season action so far, including Curren and picks 3, 18 and 19.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

The ones that count:
Nick Dal Santo
Ben McEvoy
Pick 3
Pick 24
Pick 41
turned in to:
Shane Savage
Billy Longer
Josh Bruce
Luke Delaney
Pick 3
Pick 18
Pick 19
Out goes two players, pick 24 and 41. In comes four players, pick 18 and 19.
How the hell does he do it?

Anyone else looking forward to a savage Bruce Lee hickey?
I bought a shirt from Target once.
It had a hard tag on it too.
I know how Dal feels.
