Re: Josh Bruce
Pre-Season draft...GWS (Bruce's club) have pick #1, Melbourne pick #2, St.Kilda pick #3...
Melbourne is potentially the only club that could thwart us from getting him for nothing. Are they likely to...knowing we want him/he wants to come to us...are they in a financial position to agree to his demands (whatever they are...contract period and salary)...have they stated a target of their own?

Re: Josh Bruce
Is there any reason we couldn't take him with Pick 41 in the national Draft, if we're worried Melbourne might try and stooge us in the PSD?

Re: Josh Bruce
He would have to nominate for the draft and that opens him up to being secured by any club ... Too risky.

Re: Josh Bruce
1 - apparently we've offered #41 but gws aren't keen just at the moment
2 - melbourne are the only club who could gazump us in the psd and from what Jaxons wrote the other night we would look to offer him enough $s that it should take melb out of the equation

Re: Josh Bruce
No club wants to draft a guy that doesn't want to play for them that has a massive price on his head and nominates a particular club exclusively, refuses to interview, do medicals etc. We'll get him in the PSD unless GWS fold and take 41 (which I don't see happening).

Only By melbourne and hardly any risk at all. Front end the contract. melbourne even though near the bottom have spent a fortune on Dawes and Clark and arent going to do the same onBruce. We will get him if he does do that.
Re: Josh Bruce
Great to have that published.. Gives saints a big upper hand on final day of trading.. However, GWS may have enough earlier picks to find 41 irrelevant? I.e would they use pick 41? Not sure what they're selections are?
Re: Josh Bruce
Couple of things. GWS dont want to get a reputation of being arseholes to trade with. What goes around comes around.
Why cant we front end his contract to scare off Melbourne? $500k in year one with the rest in year two and three. We are only using 95% of our cap so we can max it out (the spare 400k) this year.
Will mean some cap space next season and the year after.
What are the rules on delisted FA? GWS will have to delist him. Cant we do what we did with Roberton? Just a question.

Lance or James??

Re: Josh Bruce
GWS offered him a contract, so we cant just grab him like we did with Roberton...
Can only come as a delisted FA if the club did not officially offer you a contract
(otherwise no one would ever have to trade for uncontracted players! they could just walk to teh club they wanted)

Re: Josh Bruce
One strength they have Is there key position players, if longer went to the PSD he is less likely to come to us, Paul Roos all yr stuck it to GWS for not getting Tippet. And if Longer is as talented as everyone says it's unlikely Melbourne will let him slide through..skeptic wrote:+ do melb even need him? They have Frawley, don't they a few kp backs already?

I think we are talking about bruce. That is why we want to trade for Longer because we know GWS or Melbourne would take him. GWS wont take Bruce and melbourne would nearly be certain to say no as well.
Re: Josh Bruce
Melbourne take Bruce, they can sign him for one year on $700k. The following year Bruce can walk to us again but this time he can do it for certain as we will have pick one. Oh, and shall Melbourne try to get Bruce, I'm sure Chip Frawley would look nice in Saints colours come free agency... I very much doubt they would go for Bruce, their defense isn't the worst and I doubt they'd pick some up who didn't want to go to them.
