Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
Was running around Linton St oval, and had a chat with the curator, nice bloke. Asked him if we are coming back to play St.Kilda VFL games in 2016.
Replied this is the case, with a brand new complex built on centre wing south of, close to main stand.
Double story, 4 changing rooms with coaches boxes on top. Funded by Kingston City council, apparently back in the good books with them due to marginal seat and election next year. 1M and AFL 1M plus.
Club wanted to start stand alone team from 2014 but AFL came out to inspect facilities, shook their heads, said no way. The G.G.Huggins stand will get a complete refurb inside and out, with the AFL to cover costs of that and a brand new roof, apparently which is a nightmare also covered by AFL.
Only thing they won't pay for is the gaming room which desperately needs a refurb, club will pay for that and the old bowls club which was demolished awhile back turned into more car park space.
He mentioned a new exec head of events management from the VRC who is attributed to getting all this achieved. maybe somebody knows who he is, but certainly knows his people skills..

Great news if true
When in doubt ask yourself...what would Robert Harvey do?
Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
I'd be selling stocks in Seaford if the case....
It'll be a ghost facility in 4 years...

Probably about 1000sqm if you use $2000.00/sqm but cost for a commercial building like that might be higher.chook23 wrote:2 mil does not build to much.............would be a small buildingthezelk wrote:Was running around Linton St oval, and had a chat with the curator, nice bloke. Make it down now... The move back to Linton St by stealth is on now.
I reckon by 2018 we'll be there again full time with an elite facility. September 2018 we'll all be out on the oval celebrating our 2nd flag.

That would be stage 2 lower priority. Chuck the existing stuff in storage during any demolition.saintbrat wrote:what about the museum?

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
Rumour from a friend of a board member is that this is indeed Stage 1, and the 10-year plan is an elite football and administration facility 3 times the size of Seaford. In turn, Seaford will become home to our VFL side and development academy. No idea if true, but it's the logical step.

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
I'd like to see the Pokies Venue shifted down to the corner where it would have Main Road exposure instead of being down a suburban street where it has a much better chance of success. That, in turn would open up a lot of space between there and the oval for car parking AND open space for the locals. I think the AFL would also like this as the club would be seen as being slightly removed from the Pokies.
The more cynical amongst saints fans could be forgiven for thinking that the original re-development plans were thwarted by Kingston Council, and that there were people on the Kingston Council at that time who may have had friends who may or may not have had more than a passing interest in other Pokie Venues that may or may not be nearby !!

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
Sorry saintbrat. he didn't mention it and i didn't ask. Will do next time if i remember.
It really is a majestic old stand, obviously steeped in history, the stories those bricks could tell.
If done properly there's no reason saints fans would not flock back to watch future great players, alot of duds as well but to also enjoy the saints atmosphere, playing at what many consider our traditional home. lets face no way we'll get back to the junction again..
Great way for the club to make a sustainable income stream as well.

Sanity at last.
In the new enlarged Moorabbin facility the rubbish bin compound should be named after Archie Fraser.

They need to be replaced by something metallic.

What a waste of money.
Surely it would all be better spent on our future home in Wellington, New Zealand.

Re: Millions to be spent on Moorabbin
Anyone in the construction/building know what it'd cost to build a 35/40,000 capacity stadium (including standing room)? Is it the sort of thing in which the private sector would get involved to help fund it with long-term venue/stand naming rights? It'd be great to have something like Geelong, and move the big games to the 'G when needed. Maybe a home final?
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

Metricon stadium is listed at about $144 million. It would be close to $100 on kardina park over the various stages.
