Dal press conference

Post: # 1407529Post SemperFidelis »

On now.

Very hard to look at him in the blue, but he's all class. Plenty of positive words for the club, the coaching and recruitment staff, and full of optimism for the Saints fans. Seriously.

"... I'll always be a Saints person".

Saint for life, even in another guernsey.

This is why the Father-Son Rule is so obsolete these days.

If a club great can just pack up and go and play somewhere else for the hell of it, then why are we still being fed the outdated, romantic notion of the Father-Son nonsense?

I reckon you might be on your own here...

So long as clubs pay a fair price, I think it's great to have family connections running through generations at clubs.

It used to be great, when the concept of loyalty and tribalism was part of the game.

But it's not anymore. So the silly outdated concept should be canned totally.

Perhaps the only time it should be allowed, is if the player is a one club player.

I mean seriously, for example Luke Ball and Max Hudghton having sons one day that we have a claim to? Seriously - those two left the club and the very next year stole a flag from our grasps! Yet this outdated romantic notion which is based on absolutely nothing other than an emotional concept that no longer has a place in the game - would mean that we could get an unfair crack at recruiting them simply because their dad's once played for us.

Crazy.

Max Hudgton?

So long as its a fair price, which the bidding system provides... Then I like it.

Hayes & Riewoldt juniors would be pretty exciting.

Funny i thought that has happened since footy began. You obviously dont remember how North won their first flag nearly 40 years ago.

I work near Arden Street and saw Dal out on the oval having photos taken. It was a bit hard to take seeing him in the blue North shirt.

Funny, given how he exited the club, I wonder if we secretly wouldn't mind him doing well, compared to BJ and the Bombers where there appeared much ill feeling....

Club and player not just player?

No ill feeling towards BJ or Ball for that matter

The left in free agency for more opportunity and were lured by other clubs..... That's footy, unfortunately.

All the same to me... Not sure the distinction

If you don't believe all three players weren't committed to stk when at stk..... You're a moron.

He didnt reject our offer because we didnt give him one. BJ rejected our offer which seemed pretty fair considering his previous 2 years.

Why are we talking about an opposition player?

Lance or James??

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

He didn't activate his clause did he?

Or was Pelchen lying when he said ball was in his court?

I guessing a fair bit of mayo on that one. it was quite obvious both parties were happy to leave each other. Im not even sure it was up to him to activate. A hell of a lot of people said it was up to us. Anyway they are completely different in the way they left. you will only hace to hear the boos Dal doesnt get next year to see how most supporters feel.

BJ made comments directly after the GF2 loss that claimed the list was at the end of an era and not capable of winning a premiership, arguably he had been engulfed by a defeatist attitude from that point on and his performances in 2011 and 2012 were well down on what he had shown he could deliver. He took the GF losses very hard and I don't think he ever recovered.

Dal gave a good account of himself in 2011 and 2012 but his 2013 was well down on what he was capable of and because the club has a different focus these days it would appear that they just weren't prepared to show Dal the love his new club were prepared to shower him with.

Both players were awesome players for our club and I'd imagine will always be welcome back with open arms. If North are in the GF next year then I know that will make me want them to win for Dal just like it was fantastic for Bulldogs supporters to see Brian Lake win a premiership medallion medal this year. No reason to not be happy for them as far as I'm concerned...hopefully it's a win-win all around.

C'mon. 7 Non Delisted Free Agents took up their right, and signed with other clubs.

In a competition with over 700 players, that's a rather small amount of player movement to warrant a cry of "there's no loyalty in the game anymore" especially when one considers that each of these players had spent 8 years and appox 150 or so games with the club they left
Johnny Member wrote:Perhaps the only time it should be allowed, is if the player is a one club player.
Interesting thought, but wait for it....

Crazy.
Max Hudghton was a one club player.

I like the father-son rule, the fact that Max has been an assistant coach at another club in no way diminishes the fact he is a St Kilda man.

Luke Ball is a different case, there is every chance that he may play 100+ games at Collingwood, rightly, in this circumstance, both clubs have claims to any budding Ball jnr champions.

Does the fact that Ian Stewart won a premiership and brownlow at Richmond in anyway diminish his standing as a St Kilda legend??
