New chapter
Really feel like that last one is officially over.
We have a group of young talented guys, who are hungry and driven, and quite inseparable already.
They'll be our next core.
Sprinkle 4 picks inside 25 to the mix....
Thanks for the memories departing players, and retirees, but I'm really keen to turn the page now and take a peek at the next chapter.
Bring it on.
Go saints!

Re: New chapter
We rebuilt from the ground up using priority picks as a catalyst now we are the club who exploited free agency compo to fast track our rebuild.

Re: New chapter
lets hope your assessment of the current young ones....'talented" is accurate...
I think those that will really impact are not on the list yet........hoping some from this draft and again next year(almost certain to have an early 1st round)
the number 3 is our first early pick for some time.....
the real stars to replace those that have gone or ageing are currently dreaming to be on an afl list.
We really don't have many a grade at the moment.

Re: New chapter
More than one poster has suggested the next couple of year's will be ugly. And they probably will be.
But like many on here, I've been through worse. Been through times when things were ugly on the field and we weren't even rebuilding. We were just hopeless.
Yes we may not have a lot of wins in 2014 or even 2015, but I will enjoy watching our youth come through. And I will take comfort in knowing that unlike those other dark times, there is a plan behind all this.

Time to move on!!
Today I say good bye to one of my favourite Saints of all time in Nick Dal Santo. He was at his peak a sublime player of rare class described by Kevin Sheedy as the modern day Ian Stewart. I gained enormous satisfaction watching him play but I will survive, I have expereienced worse. Afterall I said good bye to the greatest of them all in 1994 that almost killed me, my hero Tony Lockett. 3 years later I nearly saw a premiership. I have to admit the last 12 months watching the great players of 2004-2010 era has made me quite sad watching 'dead men walking.' Their era is over at the Saints & I am looking forward to moving on to a new group of young, hungry, exciting players. We have been agressive in trading, we have taken some risks & we will keep working towards an exciting list that can challenge again.

Good player for us
he could have been as good as ablett jr but for some reason just lacked that little bit of something , that would have made him a modern great .

Ross Lyon was right. 2010 was the end of an era.

Think Ross said it in 2011. Just before he shot through.Con Gorozidis wrote:Ross Lyon was right. 2010 was the end of an era.

So it's only been 2 years.
And it hasn't been a fools paradise; just an adjustment from hoping to waiting.

He said that at the end of 2011…
Most of us have known it was coming since the GF 2010
We started rebuilding in 2012… you can't just force out every player over 25 in one or two years cause they aren't going to win you a flag - you already know that.
Peace be with you.

Re: New chapter
It has been officially over since we poached Pelchen from the Hawks.SainterK wrote:Really feel like that last one is officially over.
He was brought in to rebuild the list, and this trade/draft period is actually Year Three of the rebuild.
We have churned large numbers in each of those three years.
If it was not obvious in Year One, then with BJ going in Year Two of the rebuild it should have been crystal clear by then.
Just look at the trade of draft picks to gain multiple players = all about rebuilding the list as quickly as feasible.

Re: New chapter
Agree we have a good young group coming through, and didn't have an issue with the Mcevoy trade this year or the Goddard trade - but the Dal for pick 25 deal was absolute rubbish. No sense in throwing away proven talent for a lot less in return. Scott Watters will be the sacrificial lamb coz there is now even less chance we can muster up more than 4 or 5 wins next year.

Re: New chapter
How much did Dal help with our wins this year? I thought he had a poor year for us, considering his ability. Was this because he was not happy at the club, or has he passed his best?
Re: New chapter
I honestly dont think we have many players at all for our next rebuild. A couple have been traded for and a couple have been drafted recently and a few previously but most will come from this year onwards. All the stats suggest that. So in 4-6 years we will be a chance foe the 8 and hopefully the top 4.

Let's all hope that when Billy Buggerlugs kicks the winning goal in the 2017 Grand Final against GWS we all say, "Thank God Pelchen made those heart-wrenching decisions back in 2013!"

If you think the Dal trade for pick 25 is absolute rubbish what would say if we let him go for nothing ?Zed wrote:Agree we have a good young group coming through, and didn't have an issue with the Mcevoy trade this year or the Goddard trade - but the Dal for pick 25 deal was absolute rubbish. That's what would be happening in 12 months from now. Dal wanted to go remember.
The club's hand was forced. They needed to take what they could get. We were backed into a corner.

Yeah, I can't wait until we win a premiership in a few years either.... There's no question.... It's gonna be worth culling the greats...
Except all the other teams vying, especially the dozen or so with better players in the 19-24yo bracket, a more stable staff, better recruiting and development, better facilities, larger salary cap, not in Seaford.... Not in extreme debt.
Thank god for Pelchin!!

You haven't even seen the end of this draft period to see how we fared. The rebuild is a 3-4 year project. You don't know what the next stages will bring.BigMart wrote:Yeah, I can't wait until we win a premiership in a few years either.... There's no question.... It's gonna be worth culling the greats...

That's some insight into our future you have.
You oughta go tell them at the club what they're doing wrong or else follow another club.
This isn't good for your health.
