Re: Dal's now gone :(
Very disappointing - I wanted him to stay. However now the decision has been made, let's move on.
We better get something really good for him.

Re: Dal's now gone :(
That partly resonates with me too. Kind of felt like he was the Mark Waugh of St Kilda for a while there. Still - of all the kids we drafted in 2001/2, he was the one I loved watching plat the most. All good things come to an end so hopefully we can draft the next Dalsaintsrus wrote:Part of me is gutted and part is happy after watching him half pace in most of his games, gotta back the club in these decisions

That compo pick had better pay some dividends.
Thanks Dal for being a magnificent ambassador for our club. Very, very sorry to see you go.
Anyone got any guernsey number recommendations for my family? Our 18s and 26s are looking pretty sad now.

Seeing as we have three days to match the offer. Any chance we'd match it, if we received poor compensation?

Re: Dal's now gone :(
Bloody hell these moves better pay off. Full credit to the club if it works - making tough decisions to get us back on track after utterly pathetic list management over the past 8 years. But if we squander these picks after losing a long-serving, talented, loyal player like Dal and a leader with his best footy ahead of him in McEvoy then heads will roll.
Re: Dal's now gone :(
Off to North Melbourne like that other great Saint #26 before him, Joey McLaren.
Poster formerly known as SENsaintsational. More wisdom. More knowledge. Less name.

We arent matching the offer. he has gone. The club agreed to this because if we didnt want it to happen we could have stopped it by signing him to the contract he had to sign if we wanted to keep him. We obviously didnt want to keep him.

Part of footy has died since free agency
prob just me but the modern world of footy is eating away at my passion for the afl

No way we will get the correct compensation so I don't understand how St.Kilda let this go through????

Re: Dal's now gone :(
Rumoured to be at $500K per year rather than $450K.
If so will help with our compo pick.

Part of the magic has gone, and it will only be worse from now on.
We will be like USA sports with constant trades.

You do realise we have lost great players in the past as well and so have other clubs. We lost a GF because we let Ian Stewart go in 1971 for billy Barrott. We let Russell Greene go mid season and had no idea who the FF was playing in our jumper on the saturday. his name wasnt even in the record but Greene was.

Sad - but I think it is probably wise.
I wish him well.
I wont boo him, unlike BJ.

Re: Dal's now gone :(
Have to suspect that finances were driving this decision. We just can't afford to keep all the players. Big win for North. We have to hope we get a fair compensation pick for this but I suspect we will get royally reamed

Dalaney = Troy Schwarzt
Dal has a few years of good footy left in him. No gaurentee what 2nd round pick we'll get... We had the bargaining chip and we crumbled. Very disappointed to see him go for a 2nd round pick and a dud defender (which im presuming will be part of the trade for a late draft pic)

Dont get that at all. You have to pay 95% of the salary cap. It is due to the club hoping to rebuild quicker. the pressure on the drafting this year maybe the highest the club has ever had.

Doubt it, all clubs have to pay a minimum TPP.sasaint wrote:Have to suspect that finances were driving this decision. We just can't afford to keep all the players. Big win for North. We have to hope we get a fair compensation pick for this but I suspect we will get royally reamed
